Cute aren't they?!

I thought I was going to the other side of the island here to pick up a pair of what I assumed to be full size cocktail cabs- and these are cute little things with 13" tubes and adjustable legs!

They appear complete EXCEPT the SI has a DK Jr. board in it (complete with a little screen burn) and every part of the things requires work- except the cabinets themselves.
Built in Japan (obviously) and they used really nice plywood for these things.

I will need to start relearning my katakana and hiragana though (kanji I'm hopeless with) because digging through these will require it for sure.

I can read KO -N TO RO RU under the joystick still, but most of what is under the fire button is beyond me!

I already had a lot to learn just with monitors, now I will be getting a full history lesson- in nihongo of all things.

Need to resist tempatation to touch these until I am done with my other two (not counting artwork- ever!) open projects.

 :D

Your Japanese is better than mine at least.

When I was young I had two Japanese-obsessed girlfriends. Even my wife is a Nippon-o-phile. However all I ever learned to say was "hello", "thankyou", "where is the toilet?" and "would you please play my wind instrument?". Don't even ask   :laugh2:

The DK Jr board is a little bit special. The Japanese version of DK Jr does the level progression differently to the USA version. Levels progress start - birds/eggs - electrical - final with Japanese version, which seems more logical and is what I played as a kid in Australia. One of my favourite games.

I'm fascinated by the joinery, the special cuts they made for the corner pieces of the cabinets, to hold everything together

Check out my completed projects!

Being Japanese, the cabinet is beautiful work of course.
There are tricky mitres to it, but a proper router table and the right bit would make easy work of it really.
The original execution is flawless.

I'll need to find someone who knows these boards better than I of course.
My guess is the DK Jr isn't nihonjin but who knows.
I wonder what happened to the original SI that it came with!

Looking forward to having the time/space to clean these up and see what needs repair.
It appears most everything does.
 :hissy:

This one boots into DK Jr but the screen needs a LONG time to warm up and even still is pretty blurry and weak in the blue.
Major audio issues, and you can (sort of) play it, but oddly Mario never lets loose a single gator.

The Crazy Climber boots into what appears like a frozen test screen- and then nothing.
 :dunno

Maybe before the winter is out I can take one apart and clean it up and see if I can learn how to make it work again.
For now they are just cool to look at.

It’s current year, bro.  Let the machines do the work.

"The game is fun and fun, but the game is fun and fun." Good that all options are covered!

We all need a gun gate monk and a beam gungah.

At first I thought the top two pics were saying "children must be accompanied by an adult" and "Zumba classes to the right". The bottom row of pics looks like info on venue max. persons limits and ticketing prices for families, adults and children.

I love the original cabs, but the joystick positioning on those is the worst.

I have passed up great deals on cabs just like that.

These weren't even a great deal and they were as far away as possible without me having to swim to pick them up- but they are real, so I couldn't help myself.

You're right about the control panels of course- totally foreign concept- but cool anyway!

Like I needed two more projects I can't comprehend yet-

You and me both.  I love the look of these cabs (bobby - you are certifiable at this point) but playing on them is not comfortable at all.  I suppose eventually I could rewire my brain but it's tough.

Either way, I'll be following the progress on these projects.  They look great.

I don't have the mullet to manage that fier power!

It's a wonder that the missus tolerates me with all this crap but I suppose maybe she is grateful that it isn't all hookers and blow-

 :lol

They are (kind of) stashed here in the workshop for the moment.
I have two other things I have personally committed to building before I start diving into these things.

It already feels like it will be expensive

I keep telling mine that but she's not buying it, unfortunately.  There are way worse things to spend money on for sure!
