Audio stuttering in GM (versions above 0.229)
« on: January 03, 2022, 04:54:55 pm »
Hi everyone,

I stayed with GM ver 0.229 until some days ago as I had some stubborn audio issues with all versions above 0.229. I experienced a lot of stuttering and also saw that most games i tested only ran with 90% speed. Now I switched to version 0.238 and with some testing I got rid of the stuttering but I am still wondering if I found a suitable solution without disadvantageous side effects.

In mame.ini i deactivated autosync and syncrefresh while I activated waitvsnyc. Syncaudio is activated. With that setting I have no stuttering and games run at 100% speed.

Can anyone please tell me if that is a good solution?
I am asking because somewhere else on this board i read two things: First was that deactivating syncaudio would solve stuttering audio (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,164449.160.html), but for me there was no effect when deactivating it. Second was that deactivating autosync [as i did] would solve sound issues but would make using GM senseless (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,163296.msg1720245.html#msg1720245). The second statement was made some time ago so I am if it still is true or if it is outdated since there have been many changes in GM.

Many thanks in advance for any hint.
