pie zero 2
« on: December 17, 2021, 10:44:08 am »
just got my hands on the pie zero 2. downloading weekly build of retro pie.
pie 3 was to fat for my case. Pie zero w was to weak for my taste. ONN android did not see controls.
pic is google pic. mine looked just like it. now everything gutted and white happs joystick and buttons installed.

need to order one of these.
i'm thinking the 4 cores will allow me to run a usb soundcard without emulation issues so i can do a 240p output.
the single core didn't have enough oomph and only a pizero will fit in a genesis cartridge.

Are there benefits to this version beyond physical size?

cpu power 5x more than pie zero w. less memory than pie 3. the new pie zero 2 w is 2.7 inch long or 69mm long, 1.24 inch wide or 31.1mm wide, with larger heat sink .4 inch thick or 10.2 mm thick. perfect size for portable projects. more power than zero, 1 and 2. just under the power of the pie 3

And the problems begin. I can not get wifi working. I  have watched every video I could find on the new pie..
I know the official version of retropie is not for pie zero 2. I downloaded weekly build retropie-buster - 4.7.19-rpi2_3. img.gz.
My router for internet not showing up. For some reason I can not find weekly builds from retropie home page. I googled weekly builds to find this one
micro sd card is SanDisk EDGE 32GB
I was not happy with heat sink cana kit sent. I have much larger ones. I have extra ones, so I also put one on wifi chip also.
I would not think that would be the problem. Why did I put heat sink on wifi? Because my android boxes burn out wifi after a year. the shield pro is the exception.

OS is out 4 pie zero 2 W. but retropie is not yet. Recall box just came out with one. I prefer retropie.
we had the same issue with pie 4.

got it.
confused the two distro's.
Can you still run the retropie script on raspbian?
i recall there being some version issues with dependencies at one point.

also, i just love how it's a $15 pi but you can't actually find one for less than $40 shipped.

yep. I ended up close to $50 only the kit was not grayed out. but I wanted one that bad. Good thing I had extra heat sinks . the one cana kit sent was a joke.

I sure do not remember all the security issues on building retropi image before.
country in wifi, ssh turned off, network turned off.
weekly build seems to have a bug. every now and then when you turn on the pi it states retropie has crashed and locks up.
restart again and everything is fine.

I am finding a small issue. At first I put roms for Mame in Mame folder. nothing worked.
I cut and pasted roms in arcade folder MAME 2003. the roms work fine. only problem is in the menu.
I open arcade in menu and I see MAME 2003. thats it. just MAME 2003. if I hit  "A" button then all roms show up.
how can I fix this?
1 other problem is scraping is screen shots.  I am only getteing Flyers. + data.
I do think this might be becouse I am in Retropie. If memory serves me correctly , I think I need to be in imulation station for screen shots.
also thinking I could find where the image is stored and just replace with screen shot off google as long as I keep same name.
Make since?

This is just a bata version. dusting off the old gears. relearning. tweeking. I still have not hooked up control from acade (PS1) stick. using usb ps1 game pad clone for trials. only working with MAME right now. KODI is lined up, some console games. I have a 250 gig SSD HD ready to go in if needed. It will fit in the blaze "CP" Portable is the goal.
movies, music, arcade games, SNES, GBC,GBA,GENESIS,TURBO16. PS1, IHART RADIO
camping or travel rig to be honest. I do have it ready to run on battery bank and solar recharge or run off the JEEP power. even 12 volt 19 inch TV
tent with a projector. you might be a red neck :lol

Not just summer . to be honest. it is simple to heat a tent. cooling not so much. small wood stove. Buddy heater. ventless propane fire place on a grill tank will run 3 days.
hotels. Hunting trips. just a portable game/movie system. when I go tent camping ... we are not talking pop up tent. 1 tent is kitchen. 1 tent is shower/restroom. main tent is bedroom and living room. and front porch. it is called glamping. in my 300 acers forest. well 270 acers forest and 30 acers hay field with fishing ponds. solar power. A friend keeps the hay for the fee of cutting it. it works for me and wild life are used to my tents. I am a dooms day preper. bug out location.  this is why I am doing the pie. converting 12v to 5v D.C. is simple. 12v TV is simple. when you convert D.C to A.C , you just used up 50% of power converting.
