Ken shared what he knew. We can, and did, learn a lot from that.

I can't imagine many people in this hobby as legendary as he. He had an immeasurable wealth of knowledge and a willingness to help anyone with the most technical of issues. Ken, you will be greatly missed.

So sad! Ken has helped so many people in the arcade community for so long. I still find some of his posts on some monitor problems when I encounter them.  So much knowledge now gone from the scene. RIP Ken, I hope there’s a great big bright and clear CRT for you in the afterlife. You will be missed.

I used to make jokes about “your only hope is Ken Layton sees this thread” but I always meant it and he was always helpful.  I learned a lot about monitors and dart boards from him.

oh, damn! He was posting just the other day! Man, that's a bummer. Thoughts go out to his family and friends, but even on here he'll be sorely missed.

I'm going to miss Ken's views and expertise on the forum.

This is a reminder to us all - don't leave your projects half-done, you never really know when the thread may end ... abruptly  :(

That is...so, incredibly sad. He was an incredible wealth of knowledge, and as near as I can tell, a decent bloke.

Ken was a good guy, knowledgeable, and always willing to share what he knew. We've lost a legend.

This... x100

Easily the 'biggest' loss to the community since I've been in it.

Didn't know Ken personally but quite obviously a huge loss to every community he was a part of.

The value of the info he had learned and shared about monitors seems invaluable.
Remarkable asset to all of us.

Hope his family is doing ok.
Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools! I can fix it.

I actually saw someone mention this on Facebook, which I never use, and likely wouldn't have caught if I didn't have a reason to go on there. I was shocked. Talk about a great dude who contributed so much to this community. I had to come by and pay my respects. I hope his family is well and am saddened by this great loss.

That is a great thing about forum posts that are maintained in some form forever. Even when we are gone, a piece of us is always around for others to experience. Godspeed Ken.

Also, take a quick look here, it's short:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=12771.0
Back when it started on this forum for Ken.

And then I found this from his old alma mater just looking for his obituary. There's a message board here for his class, and Ken posted on that board several times starting in 2003 I think. The most recent posts by him were letting classmates know when another had passed away and providing info on their class reunion. His last post was from August of 2020. If you go into one of his posts on that board, you can click his name and see the profile he made for himself.
