Spray-paint and aluminum?

(1/1)

Trebeck:
Hey all,

I have a marquee holder from Home Depot that is an "L" shaped piece of aluminum.  Can I spray-paint these black or is there a better way?
I don't want to have it easily scratch off on me.

Thanks,
Beck

LTC:
I used vinyl wrap to cover up mine, but with proper prep, spray paint should hold up.

BadMouth:
Spray paint is standard (if not using actual plastic marquee retainers).

Use primer if you are concerned about ot being scratched.  Project farm on youtube has done some paint durability tests if you want to watch those.  I don't recall which came out best for scratch resistance.  IIRC Rustoleum 2X did pretty well.

MartyKong:
Another idea is to use plastic clear painters edge guard. This is designed to protect wall corners but since it's clear you can spray the back of it which will show your color but still be protected from  scratches. Just another idea.
