Basic, non-Mame marquee req.
« on: February 05, 2004, 11:49:01 am »
There's just not enough nice, generic non-Mame marquees to choose from!

I don't want the word MAME on my cab because I want to concentrate on the games, and not the name of the emulator.  What I was thinking about doing is something retro-feeling but totally new at the same time.  I'd like to have the word ARCADE in similar font and color as the Defender marquee centered across the marquee, and in the background a kind of blue pac-maze that should glow nicely when lit.   I don't think any game characters would work in this, but I'd like to see if the idea works (or something along the same vein).  Dimensions: 27" x x 7.75"  I figure we could make this available to everyone as a alternative to the slew of Mame marquees out there,  yet still be generic enough for lots of people to use.

Any input and production is greatly appreciated!

I've started dinking around with it.  I'll try to get it done soon.

Nannuu you must the most "old-school" dude around here! You managed to build a cabinet in "the days", many people here wouldn't even dream about having this possibility!

I'm sorry to miss the point here but i think the pic should be posted! Feel free to tell me if you don't want it but i think it's a great pic indeed!

Thanks!  Yep, grew up around my dad's sign shop full of tools.  That entire cabinet was built with my own jig and skil saws.  I had just finished with woodshop in junior high where I built a small NES shelf and it sparked the idea of a "real" cabinet.  Too bad I didn't find this site until last year, holy schniky, I could've been building real cabinets for years now!!!!

Ok, something like this?  I went ahead and added it to a Defender marquee as well.  If you like it I'll rework it some as the pac maze needs some measurement tweaks and maybe some more random maziness.

Great!  That's pretty much what I had in mind....nice and old school, but I wanted to get the point across that it's not just one game in there, and hopefully people will get the idea (not to mention sparing me the inevitable "What is this Mame game?" question).

One question:  do you think the maze is going to "pop" enough against the dark background?   Tweak whatever you feel like--I don't think it's a bad look though, all things considered.

Please email me the original(s)if you can...if anyone can contribute to the collection of more "generic" marquees for the community, hey, go for it-- you guys are producing some great stuff out there!

Love the Defender take.

The inverted Williams "W" is neat.

Why thank you, I liked the little M up there too.

I made the maze larger so that the outline is thicker and I've lightened it up a bit.  Also messed with the Arcade lettering a little to make it stand out some more.  I've been playing with the colors for a while now and I can't decide what to do with it so I figure I'll just post what I have....

Those marquees are awesome.

Is there any chance you could make another defender "arcade" marquee, instead saying "DEFENDARCADE?"  I am building a defender replica cabinet and that was the name I was leaning towards.

Wow!  Looks even better!  I'll take it as-is, or, if you feel like it, maybe blur that outline on the text a bit to give it a more "glowing" feel.

If you want to give it more color variation, have the blue maze outlining the marquee change to or fade into a Ms. Pac pink as it goes to the other side.

If it's too much of a pain, like I said, I'll take it as-is!  Thanks!

Mmm, looking better.  I'll try to soften the outline around the lettering as well.  Not sure how to do that though...

Jimmy:  I advise against printing at that resolution--technically you can, but when you blow it up you'll lose all sorts of clarity and detail.

Nannuu:  looking good, man!  Maybe fading the outline of ARCADE into pink like you did the maze will make it uniform, and you won't have to worry about softening the outline .   You've got free reign to do absolutely whatever you want with it.

Ok, I won't print that.  I don't know much about vector files.  I've had pretty good luck printing high res jpg's.  I use "poster 7" to print at school.  If you think it will recognize a vector file, I will try that.  My email is:
jimvisser@kentisd.org

thanks again.

You can download it from the vector library here:

It is almost 4 mb so it may be easier than trying to mail it.

Hi Nannuu,
I really like the Pac-Man / Ms Pac-Man maze marquee you created. I would like to attempt to use that as the background for my marquee. Would you be ok with that? Or would you rather others not modify your work? I was hoping to use Retrocade as the name. I am not sure if it would be upper and lower case or just upper case. I have been having trouble finding a font that I like. Perhaps you could suggest something. Thanks.

Heck no, use away!  There is plenty of room for improvement on that one!  Anything I post on the public forum is up for grabs.  For something like Retrocade I'm not sure what font to use.  If you can think of a font that was used in the early eighties that somehow reminds you of that time it may be a good pic.  But none come to mind for me.  Only movie fonts come to mind but that doesn't really match a game cab.  Or classic game fonts of course.

sorry to dig up an ancient thread, but the download link to the high-res version seems down, could anyone provide the high-res file ? I would be particularly interested in the "ARCADE" logo with stars background
great work!

Live these marquees. Anyone have a high res version of the ARCADE text over the blue maze? I didn't see it in the link provided.

You need to get a big decal for your windshield that says "Car".
