Aurora monitor backlight inverter kills Power supply

(1/1)

popcorn1:
The inverter board for the backlight on the monitor (FS-S190AB) is preventing the game from booting.  It causes the PS to shut down after a few seconds. Unplugging the inverter board allows the PS to stay running. I found the 4 caps on the board were all bad and replaced them but the bad caps must have allowed damage to something else as the PS issue remains. Different PS does the same thing.

I would absolutely consider using a LED backlight replacement (if such a thing is possible) but there is a whole lot more components and wires on this board than required to just drive a FL tube. It must do more than that? There is power, 4 output connectors and a 12 pin connector.

Anyone have any guidance they can offer?

Yep probably a shorted driver IC in the inverter board. Not worth fixing now.

Replacment plug and play inverter is about 40 bucks for an equivalent

Universal 17-21in display inverters are about 15 bucks on eBay... But you'll have to run new wire and tap it in to 12v but they work just fine.

The 4 small connectors are your CCFL tubes the don't letter which plugs into where.... The other cable carries 12v, ground, a signal wire to turn on the inverter, and a brightness wire.
