Cancelled reformat of IPAC board, now cannot be seen
« on: September 22, 2021, 10:58:49 pm »
Hi all! I was changing the firmware to my IPAC IO Ultimate.  Halfway through, I received an error message.  I cancelled the update, and when I did, my board "disappeared" from Windows.  Now my PC nor winIPAC do not see the board.  It does not appear to power on.

details:
Win 10 - 4PL | 2x IPAC IO Ultimate boards

The firmware update was Ultrastik_37_forceout.ufw - Andy himself sent it to me to help me figure out my Xinput issues.  It finished the first part and then gave an error.  I unfortunately don't remem the exact message, but something like "-7 missing."
Now the board does not even light up.  I have a 2nd board I did not mess with. This board is still working properly.  WinIPAC has ALL options greyed out, except for open, which doesn't do anything.  WinIPAC gives me the NO BOARD error screen.

What I've attempted:
unplugging USB/power and reconnecting.  Restarting and shutting down PC, connected and unconnected.  I've checked device manager and nothing appears.  note: doing the same tests with board #2 and it appears, works, detected in WinIPAC etc.

I've also reached out to Andy, but I imagine he's a busy guy.  Any ideas how I can discover my IO board?

Thanks!

Hopefully you didn't brick the board.

Andy is busy for sure but is really good at replying and offering help so give it a bit if someome else doesn't reply sooner than he does.
Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools! I can fix it.

All I can suggest is try to follow the section under "What can go wrong" on this page:

But since nothing is appearing in Device Manager it sounds like its bricked.  I'm curious to know if the main device can be programmed from a blank state after its on the board cause however that is accomplished is what's probably needed.

You could always try to uninstall your USB in Device Manager, and reboot, then plug in the Ipac to see if it will reregister it. Not sure it will work, but I've had to do that on some things like DVD Roms, and USB devices in the past. Worth a try.

Sounds like Andy owes you a new board.  Good luck.
