Please help understanding logs with non-working games
« on: July 13, 2021, 05:07:58 pm »
I have quite a few games that when I try and load them through attract mode it fails and just goes right back to the front end.

This is one of them.  Does somebody mind reading the log and helping me try to understand what is going on?

Thanks

Any advice?
The more I go through my games list the more i'm realizing that a huge majority don't work.

Using GM 0.233 via groovy arcade.  Roms appear to be 0.233, at least according to clrmamepro

GroovyMAME needs X to run. You are running it from outside X.
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead or pasting it.

Edit

Ok Iíve realized X refers to Xorg.
Iím totally unfamiliar with it. Do I need to do something special to run GA inside X?

I turn my computer on and GA just boots up, didnít realize I have to run it with this xorg server.

I assume I also would need to setup/install the xf86 drivers for my ati card with xorg as well?

I have no idea?
Iím going off what Calamity mentioned.
My install seems fine but I have no idea about the behind the scenes stuff and how it works.

Is there any commands I can run to make sure Iím running within X and to verify im using the proper video drivers?

If AM sgows, you're on X. For the rest, you'd need to remote login.

@Substring, by his log, not only SR but also SDL are picking DRMKMS, so for some reason X is not detected by them.

Any recommendations to what I can do/try?

Should I just reinstall GA from scratch?

Yes, AM boots at startup and runs perfectly normal.

Absolutely, thanks so much for taking a look at this.

I also included the mame.log, there is a recurring error i see, "unknown pcm card".
Also when loading different roms I see a common error of trying to find file "dl-1425.bin" but cannot find.

Pretty sure that .bin file should be in the "qsound_hle.zip" BIOS file.

Sounds like either you haven't got that BIOS file in your ROMs folder or your ROMset version doesn't match your MAME version.

the PCM stuff is some usual ALSA whining, nothing to worry about.

Now what I don't get is that your mame.log here show nothing special, whereas your punisher looks like you've enabled verbose and started GM from the console, not AM.

I believe I did that log from the console, not within AM?

It was the only way I knew how to make a log.
But now that you mention that, I guess that explains why it looks like stuff isnít running through X.

Guess my problem with so many rims not loading lies elsewhere. Maybe it is the bios files like PL1 mentioned, just didnít realize so many rims needed bios files to run.

I bet your romset isn't validated.

If you want to make a big mame log, just edit the command line arguments inside AM and add -v

Is there a way to check?
I donít have a full set, I only have the parent roms of maybe 100-150 games.
