Pitfall Cocktail need some help
« on: June 05, 2021, 05:54:23 pm »
Build a few mame machines but would like to keep this mainly OG
1.  Monitor working fine
2. Sounds good
Takes quarters and registers
3.  Game board is messed up a bit, players don’t show up etc. Sounds work etc , everything but main gameplay. Right now it’s a Pitfall Lost Caverns pcb

What I want to do.
1.  Is there a way to bypass this board and get a jamma 60 in 1 made for cocktail games? I want to keep the OG guts etc and be able to bypass the old board.

Is this even a jamma connection on this board? They seem to look a bit different ... pics attached.
Any help would be great, I’m fine With most repairs but would like a bunch of options for games , cocktail specific hopefully, and not gut this thing.

Thanks in advance for any help

I counted 22 pins and I’m guessing this is from around mid 80’s so jamma not an actual thing yet?

PBJ I understand that they want to do the *opposite* of that. They want to run a JAMMA PCB on their unaltered pitfall cab (not run a Pitfall PCB on a JAMMA cab).

BCgamer, You need to make an adaptor "loom" to go from 22-pin to 28-pin JAMMA standard. I say "make" rather than "buy" because you probably won't be able to buy one. It isn't difficult and would probably take you a couple of hours of soldering. You also might be able to get someone to custom make it for you.

Go online, grab 2 things: a JAMMA harness
https://www.ebay.com/itm/192497131511?hash=item2cd1b91ff7:g:ScAAAOSwPoZavnj3

and some 28-pin JAMMA finger boards
https://www.ebay.com/itm/172121505038?hash=item28133dbd0e:g:uRwAAOSwaA5WiUaO

Now, you'll need to reduce the 28 pin finger board to 22 pins. Carefully mark and score along line with a craft knife to snap off (or cut off) the extra 6 pins. You might screw this up first time, so make sure you have multiple fingers to work with. You might be able to find 22 pin fingers, but that will be more difficult and might cost you more. Anyway, I'll leave that to you.

Now you can chop back the JAMMA harness wires and solder them directly to the 22 pin finger.
It is just soldering-by-numbers from here. Follow the original cab harness and standard pinouts as your guide.

The JAMMA pinouts are everywhere online. Here is a pinout for Pitfall II:

What he needs to do is convert that cabinet to jamma and then buy that adapter to run his original board.
