Help with Mame Touch Screen Set-up
« on: April 06, 2021, 10:14:26 pm »
Hello all.  I’m looking for help on getting my touchscreen working in Mame.  I’ve already done plenty of reading on the subject and have tried getting it to work numerous different ways.  My understanding is that the screen needs to be setup like a light gun which I’m familiar with as I currently use the Sinden in Mame. The other thing people have noted is to unplug all the devices which Mame might recognize as a mouse.

I followed both of those instructions but I cannot get Mame to recognize the touchscreen as an input in the controls menu.  The touchscreen works to click on the Mame menus but when I try to set it up as the x or y axis or button press, it doesn’t pick anything up.

Anyway, I’m currently running the latest version of Windows 10 and have tried a few different versions of Mame and MameUI64.  Not sure if there’s a particular version of Mame that works but if anyone  has any advice, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Been a LONG time since I messed with this stuff.
I may not remember correctly, or my knowledge might be outdated.

Enable Mouse, Lightgun, & Multi-mouse in mame.ini
Set lightgun_device  to mouse

In your MAME folder there is also an ini FOLDER which contains ini files for individual roms.  These override the mame.ini in your main folder.
So you may need to delete or modify that individual ini file.

I vaguely remember swiping across to map x and swiping up or down to map y.
Honestly I'm not sure if that was MAME or some other emulator.

i can get the x y working but i can’t seem to get the button press to work.  it’s odd, if i click a real mouse button, it takes.  but the touchscreen “click” (which should just be a mouse click) doesn’t register.

Does the touchscreen register as a left click outside of MAME?
The only other thing I can think of is that touchscreen software back in the day gave me the option of registering as either button or long press for right click.

...or it could be that the click is routed through software that MAME ignores.
Try disabling multi-mouse...

it does register as a mouse click in windows.  i did read somewhere that disabling multimouse wo d work but i would have to unplug all other mice (trackball, spinners, lightguns, etc.).  maybe a script to disconnect those devices at touchscreen game launch?

more testing to come..
