My first build (four player wall mounted)
« on: March 18, 2021, 08:00:53 am »
Here's my first build. I'm still working out the kinks with Hyperspin. I'm looking to switchover to bigbox. The keymapping are throwing me off.

Here's my build walkthrough: https://imgur.com/gallery/Hqp687m?fbclid=IwAR0uTpTTpLB7-dHq22Gvus0xT1HN-094SHtYy9BrltLbdz8o5Fu53MzgJj8

EDIT for notes:
  • This was a design that I had created using good old fashion pencil and paper and then sketching it up in Sketchup
  • took 4 days to build but 3 months to get artwork done
  • Used a 37" tv
  • Side panels have spare USB ports for wireless keyboard and lightguns (future purchase)
  • hangs off of three french cleats that are anchored to studs
  • no prior wood working experience. Seriously, anyone can do this!
  • System is modular. Control panel detaches from main cabinet and can be converted to pedestal or "portable" gaming system
  • I routed three slots and used t bolts and wing nuts to secure the control panel to the main cabinet. I did this so that 1. the system could be modular 2. easier to take a part if I decide to move it and 3. gives me access to the rest of the cabinet.
  • Admittedly, I could've done a better job with the sliding mechanism for the control panel and main cabinet. If I had to redo it, I would either 1. route a longer slot so that the CP slides out more or 2. figure out how to incorporate drawer slides so that I'd have better access to the cabinet internals. The problem with 2 is that the CP wouldn't be easily detachable.

Looks nice.  I guess its too late to suggest you not angle the P3 P4 joysticks?

If it’s done already, I don’t even bother commenting on that anymore.

Same.  In 20 years there are going to be so many cabinets out there with this mistake that people will be convinced it is correct, if it hasn't happened already.

OP did a nice job for a first build although that CP is a bit too big for my tastes.

It's bottom mounted so it could probably be rotated.  But if its like my house there would never be a need for 4 players.  I did drag my son over to play 1 game of 2 player Joust on the new cab...lol.

A few feet, but we really don't use it much. I'll probably move it to another wall

Thanks. The CP is taller than what I wanted, but it's currently housing most of the electronics. If i wanted, I can detach it from the main cab and have a "portable" system
