Any reputable builders left?
« on: January 03, 2021, 11:42:22 pm »
My friend really wants a full size cabinet but after building two cabs and a bar top, I just don’t have the time and energy required to do it. I don’t mind doing the wiring and the software setup but I need a shell to work with. I know I can buy a donor cabinet but there is no guaranteeing the shape it will be in and if it’s in good shape it will most likely blow the budget.

So does anyone build any kits right now? Game room solutions has what I’m looking for but their bbb rating and the feedback on this forum means they aren’t a solution.

Ps I wasn’t sure if this belonged here or the vendor forum so please move if needed.

Where do you live?
Arcadeshop has a pretty good list.

Arcadeshop does look good but not only are they out of stock on cabinet but most of their cabinets are of the single player variety. My friend originally wanted a four player cab but I talk them out of it so a two player cab is a must. I think a midway/mortal kombat style or street fighter 2 style might be best.

I've actually seen quite a few "kits" on Etsy of all places. Obviously, you'll be spending way more than if you built yourself - and they seem to lean towards the "slim, widescreen" variety. But it's worth a look.

Doing a search for "arcade kits" in a web search yields several options. You may have to look around to get what you want but it seems like there's no shortage of vendors.

All the barebones generic cabinets with preinstalled JAMMA harness and power supply seem to be non existent now. That's what I was going to suggest.

Is there anyone near you that does commercial type woodworking?

There are quite a few V Carve plans (with varying degrees of confirmed accuracy) on the classicarcadecabinets site that someone with a cnc machine could rip out for you.

Still a bunch of work left to do to build a cabinet that way, but it would be a great start if you have no other better options.

Thanks! Somehow they got mentally crossed off my list (probably because of the thread in the vendor forum).

I was in the same boat.  Built 2 full size cabs, bartop and wanted a 4 player but no time.  Started one but after months and months I realized it wasn't going to happen.

I purchased a 4 player DIY cab from Keith at Monster Arcades.  They did an amazing job.  All 3/4" thermal laminated birch.

Have the commercial vendors fixed their 4P control panels yet?  I seem to remember almost all of them sold $4000 4P cabinets with angled sticks.
