Admin Button Mapping
« on: December 30, 2020, 01:33:00 pm »
Control panels on cabinet kits always come with admin controls but I haver never used more than UI Select and UI Cancel for MAME on any of my builds. I would like to be able to have more options but I have no idea what these buttons are actually supposed to do. Obviously, I can map these buttons to anything I want but knowing what their intended purpose is will give me ideas of what I could map them to. Could any of you help me out by listing the admin buttons you are familiar with, and what each button does by default?

Mine are Exit, Menu, Mode, and Play (in addition to Player 1 Start and Coin).

Thanks.

Not sure what "Mode" is.   :dunno
- What key is it mapped to?

I assume that "Play" launches games from the Front End.
- Since the default is to navigate the Front End menus with P1 joystick, many people use P1B1 to launch games.

Menu can be a bad choice, depending on who has unsupervised access to the cab.   :banghead:

Thanks Scott, I will map a couple of these to control the front end. Much appreciated.

I was stunned at how quickly and thoroughly my kids and friends could absolutely shred the machine configuration- even just accidently of course.

With the admin buttons mapped to the regular button controls as shift functions or even as dedicated separate switches that were accessible and totally irrelevant to gameplay sometimes it could be in less than a minute of me walking away from the machine.

Kept happening until I hid some buttons as dedicated admin controls and effectively disabled the ability to change menu details by any means other than a keyboard.

Now only I can screw it up.
Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools! I can fix it.
