SNK SC19-4 style bartop (finished)
« on: November 23, 2020, 10:42:26 am »
[Update: project is no more a 4 players cab build.
finished pictures are a few posts below.

Hi there,
Not my first build but first one shared with the community.
Very happy to meet you, I'm scammr, from France.

I started a few weeks ago to design the plans of a bartop for a 32 wide monitor,
with the intention to have a compact 4 players model
(with in priority comfort for two players gaming)(and yes, joysticks will not be angled!)

After trying several styles of bartop found on manufacturers' websites, none of them really suited me.
I found them too square, too massive.

I remembered the design of mini neo-geo that came out recently and I took it as a basis of inspiration to create the shape of the side panels.
It turns out that the neo-geo mini is inspired by the SNK SC19-4.

The bartop can be separated in 2 pieces to be transported or stored more easily if needed.
It runs with pieces of an old computer and the Attract Mode front-end (because I find it very easy to install and maintain).

On the white edges there will be a t-molding and the blue edges will be left in blue without t-molding.
For the side art I will use a white matte vinyl adhesive.
I have to add coin/start/select buttons on the design.

For the art on the side panels I'm thinking reproducing the original arcade side art: a neo geo logo on the blue and red stripes.
For the control panel, not shure but thinking about doing like the mini neo-geo with white and red.

What do you think ? Do you have any comments on things I should improve ?

Ditch P3 and 4 and just do 2 player. P3 and P4 look incredibly cramped.

agreed, not enough 4 player games to justify but a dedicated 4 way in the middle  and a more spread out 1 and 2 player would server ya well. By the way I think the design is cool. Do you have a plan for speakers. I think your marquee will glow good being in a shadow.
They treated me like an animal and that's what I became.

For a bartop, I agree... 2 players would be better.

That said, building a small one just fed my appetite to build a 4 player cab. Dunno if it'd get much use these days tho.

Thanks to showing me the truth... I knew it but I didnt want to accept  ::)
That's why i'm posting in here !
I'll keep the ipac4 for a cocktail style cabinet that will be more suited for 4 players experience and casual shoot'm all.
I think you've seen this a hundred time: the guy who wants everithing in his build. But I have to accept: a bartop is small.

I'm going to slightly reduce the width of the control panel and maybe think about modifying its shape,
which doesn't look that good.
I had built around the fixed idea of having an ultra wide CP for 4 players.
Now that I'm starting on a comfortable 2-player, I'll be able to be more creative.

I received my two Sinden lightguns and I wonder if I can find a way to store them aesthetically under the CP.
But if it doesn't fit well, I'm not adding them into and I'll store them in another place.

I had planned to use that cheap amazon illuminated buttons with metalic edges who were hanging out in my boxes,
but they are quite average, what do you advise me as good american style quality buttons ?

a dedicated 4 way in the middle  and a more spread out 1 and 2 player would server ya well.
What do you mean by a dedicated 4 way ?

By the way I think the design is cool. Do you have a plan for speakers. I think your marquee will glow good being in a shadow.
Thanks ! I can't wait to see what this will look like indeed.
I forgot to add the speakers but they'll be hidden and the sound will be blasted behind or under the cab.

Bonjour,
here are some pics of finished bartop.
So glad of how it turned out.
Thanks for the advices guys, I definitely love it and I would surely regret it with a cramped 4 players setup.
I'ts my old loved windows PC inside.
