What would it cost to build this cab ?
« on: October 22, 2022, 02:16:10 pm »
Hi all - there is this cabinet available close to me and I am wondering what you think it would cost to build this from scratch ?

i know it has a 60 in 1 jamma board inside but everything else is pretty basic.

The price they are asking seems high to me so I would like to know what a reasonable offer would be compared to building it myself.

TIA !

It all depends on where do you live and what skills do you have.
I’d say the bare minimum is 500EUR.

How long is this piece of string? It has a 60-in-one; the string is string  :dizzy:

More constructively:
- sheet of 4x8 plywood/MDF   $75
- set of two-player controls     $50
- front glass (not perspex)      $30
- Marquee (perspex fine)        $30
- 60-in-one board                  $50
- half-decent CRT for monitor $75
- key encoder                        $30
- simple audio amp/speaker    $30
- fans                                    $10
- DC 5v/12v power supply       $20
- paint & gear                        $50
- incidentals                           $50
                                            $500

Those numbers are obviously very rubbery. Round that up to a ballpark budget of $600. You might make savings here and there, but you may end up blowing out the budget elsewhere.
Check out my completed projects!

Why do you need a key encoder for a 60 in 1?  He'd need a JAMMA loom and a switching PSU , no key encoder, no fans, a serviceable LCD (like the one in the picture) , no audio amp, just a speaker.

400 CDN (about 290 USD) is a good price for that cab; labor aint free even if you dont pay for it ;)
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Fair call, I hammered the list out too fast, though I did list a DC PSU (switching) there :D  I think fans are a good thing too, but in a cool dry climate probably not essential.

With some thought and a cheap LCD instead, could probably economise and trim it down to $400.

Yeah, very cheap. That price barely even covers the materials cost!

Looks like a fairly well done setup and the price is fair, I hope you bought it and enjoy it for a longtime to come.
