Enterprise refit and assorted other shenanigans
« on: October 13, 2020, 11:36:31 am »
Nov 5th through the 9th two forum members are coming out to help me restore the decrepit Captain's Chair shell I bought awhile back.

Arroyo and Bperkins01 will be descending upon Alpha Centuri to work as arcade techs for a few days.

They will be compensated with booze, food, and by basking in my awe inspiring presence.  ::)

Those guys will bring their varying talents, tools, and knowledge and will apply them to a small arcade setting. We are all going to learn something. (Especially me).

I will be posting a ton of pics and maybe some video if you guys are lucky. If I had decent internet I would live stream.

This trip is in preparation for a massive party once things get back to some semblance of normalcy.

This is going to be awesome.

I needed a day or two to collect my thoughts.

I am going through the pics today. A write-up is coming soon.

It was an amazing and exhausting weekend.

If this keeps up you should consider letting your guests sign your workshop space. Getting those two guys out there deserves to be memorialized. This is big!

This past weekend Arroyo and Bperkins01 stayed at Alpha Centuri for the weekend. Thursday through Sunday. Bperkins01 left on Monday morning.

We plowed through a ton of work and had a blast.

We made progress on the Indy 500. The FFB is still being a bastard, but we are closer to an answer.

We had a lot of fun racing.

My local friend's son is the biggest trash talker.

He loved giving Arroyo a bunch of ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

The main focus of the weekend was to make progress on my Star Trek Captain's Chair restoration.

Lots of sanding, filling, more sanding, paint stripping, more sanding.

Then it was on to priming, and painting some stuff and applying laminate to other parts.

The rubber mats are cut for the floor. I am just working out how I want to trim around the edges of the floor.

Some idiot MAMEd this cab. He had speakers and an LCD where the CRT should be.

How do you like the custom nerd shirts I had made for the guys?

Still more pics.

Mike A ---fouled up beyond all recognition--- up. Good thing it wasn't in the part we were using. THe tape was to keep it from tearing further.

A big router table is really handy for trimming large panels.

I can't imagine better friends than the ones I have.

Arroyo gave me a NOS Monroe stick for Gyruss.

Bperkins01 brought a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- ton of tools and his Gyruss PCB to mix and match stuff.

These guys worked non stop all weekend. It was pretty amazing.

One of my local friends made us chili one night for dinner and pizza the next night.

Bperkins01 was swapping chips in and out of a couple of Gyruss PCBs while also playing the Centipede cocktail.

we adjusted the colors on some monitors. My Eagle image was tilted. That was fixed as well. Oops. I will take a pic of that later.

Making some adjustments to Asteroids deluxe. Cool pic when you adjust a bit too far.

We switched my candy cab monitor from horizontal to vertical.

Arroyo and Bperkins01 can add some stuff now. ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---. That was a lot of pics.

This was a great visit.  Plenty of things to do.  But MOST important was helping to save an original Star Trek Captains chair.  I personally like bringing back machines to their original form.  The guy who ruined this chair originally needs some time in the brig for willful destruction of property

I also learned some new games (I really liked Pengo) and learned enough Tempest that I now need to keep an eye out for a project machine.

Thanks MikeA for inviting us out for 12 hours a day of manual labor..
I'd do it again in a heartbeat  :P

How is it that I haven't replied to this yet?

Where to start...

I was very excited to help out with Mike's Star Trek Captains chair, it's kind of a holy grail for me, so just to get to see it in person and work on it was special.  Mike was very accommodating to both bperkins and my obsession with perfection and he let us run a little wild.  I'm sure he had to bite his tongue more than once.  Despite my expectation that we'd be playing it on the last day (I always underestimate time) we made good progress and I am pumped to see how it turns out.

Not only did Mike make shirts for the occasion, but he bought extra tools for the event so we could all work simultaneously.  He also had rewired outlets in the ceiling so we could easily access power.  I am blown away by the shop, I will need to take out a small mortgage just to satisfy my desire for parity (ain't happening).

He had his local friends cook for us almost every night and had parties setup to blow off steam from a days work.

I always learn a ton when visiting his place as the number of machines necessitates ongoing repairs.  He let's me play around on all his stuff (even though he knows if it was the reverse I'd probably be micro managing the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- out of him).

He and bperkins are good friends, we always have a blast when we get together.

Oh and he made sure I had a steady supply of beer at all times:

Ugggh. That ---smurfing--- IPA ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

I supplied actual beer, but Arroyo insists on drinking perfume in a can.

If you ever need a big job done these two guys are the best.

Arroyo could be a better hype man than Flavor Flav.

He had boundless enthusiasm for the real work involved in restoration.

Bperkins01 was great at adapting to my shop. I have worked with people that ---smurfette--- and moan about not having "their tools".

This guy would just say, "I need something that does this." Then I would rummage around until I found something that would work.

So cool of you guys to fly out and have an arcade repair/restore party!  Looked like a lot of fun.

Surprised that you got a lot of stuff done, I would have just wanted to get drunk and play games all weekend. :lol
