hi pbj, i just checked out the link but that seems to be for replacement plastic thumb tops and is not what im looking for

what im looking for is the small preset potentiometers that are moved by the sticks, the carbon has worn out after 20 years lol

i havent opened the stick up yet but they usually look something like this example which ive marked with color

If you're decent with soldering, you can buy replacement sticks for just a few bucks. You'll have to de-solder it from the board then solder in the new one. I've never looked inside an original Xbox 'S' controller before, but I would imagine that the sticks would be fairly universal.

I don't know why you wouldn't just get new gamepads.... they aren't exactly expensive.

These guys do pretty decent 3rd party game pads if you are interested:

Afraid I could not find and OG xbox specific joysticks but I am sure they are out there somewhere!

May need to get a part number off one.

heys guys thanks for the replies

yeah my soldering is fine , my job is repairing laptop and phone motherboard smd components

the stick is mechanically sound so i was just going to replace the x and y presets

i dont mind replacing the whole stick unit either but I also havent been able to find any for the original xbox

i really would like to keep this old original controller working as its been with me since 2002 and served me well, ive used it on a daily basis and only just now have the presets worn out

I have a box of ps3 controllers somewhere in storage, i'll dig them out and hopefully the presets are the same

thanks guys

Wait a second, you’ve been playing the same video game system do you leave for 20 years?

I don't have an answer for you but have you checked if your clock capacitor is leaking while you're in a maintenance mood?

There's a lot going on with the OGXBOX.
You can try asking here: https://www.ogxbox.com/forums/
