Tron gone wrong?
« on: September 15, 2020, 03:20:05 pm »
I stumbled across this website recently that has some really nice looking cab artwork, which is what got me there.  However when I was admiring their Tron slim cabinet build, I couldn't help but immediately notice a giant red flag.

More details here:
https://szabosarcades.com/products/legends-ultimate-tron-sides-and-front-art?_pos=5&_sid=9fca938dd&_ss=r

At first I thought, ok, maybe this person likes the theme but not the game?  But then I noticed Tron is loaded up on the monitor.

So, given that Tron requires at least a trigger on an 8 way joystick to be able to both shoot and move at the same time, with your other hand devoted to the spinner for aiming, I'm quite confused as to how you could successfully play the game with this CP.

Yeah, I can't tell exactly what's on his CP (what are those white things?), but it looks like someone just didn't want to spend the money on a flight stick? Damn shame too, because I like the artwork on that.

I wonder if the builder just decided to get creative with controls maybe?  I downloaded Ikari Warriors on my Mame cab just to try it out, using the far left and far right buttons to rotate and the center buttons to shoot/grenade, but it sucked. I tried playing Tron on a friend's bartop with modified controls like that, and it was garbage.

I think that is a reskin of a "Legends Ultimate" cabinet.  Like if you bought an A1UP cabinet and put your own custom art on it.

If it looks cool in the Man Cave, they usually don’t care about accuracy

What if it looks like dog ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- in the man cave?

If that's true, that's just sad.

Considering there is nothing on the cab that screams Tron Classic, points added for not besmirching the name.

How many buttons are you supposed to inadvertently press when using the spinner?  That control panel is a hot mess.  14 buttons, a spinner, trackball and a Tron stick all in the span of about 18".  My god.

You are right. The control panel is not important on an arcade machine.

I really wish people would stop saying "could care less". It is "couldn't care less".

People do it all of the time and it is annoying.

It's a dumb phrase either way.  Someone that cares a great deal about something could not bring themselves to care less.

Wait until you realize that everyone uses decimate incorrectly. That'll make your eye twitch.

Or jealous instead of envious.

Looks comfy with that 1" space from buttons to the edge of the CP.  Guess it's an endurance test to see who can keep their arms fully elevated the longest. ;)

Tron is a good example of a game with mediocre game play, but it's presented so well you just can't help but keep playing it. Irregarldessly, I could care less for the game.

It has a very specific meaning.
