Arcade 1up - Trackball fix [PARTIAL TEMPORARY]
« on: September 12, 2020, 10:58:56 pm »
Use silicone lubricant.

==================================

So today, i opened up the machine and fiddled around for an hour
or two.

1 opened up the back [not necessary]

2 opened up control panel. took off the side screws

3 disconnected control wires, and speaker connector

4 took off an opened up the trackball

5 took off both rollers, TAKE CARE AS THE SMALL BOLT AT THE END COMES OFF.

i then lubricated both, and put them back.

(after fiddling around, switching them around etc).

6 TAKE CARE IN REASSAMBLING EVERYTHING. Made the rookie mistake of putting

everthing back together again, only to find out trackball only went up and down.

then had repeat all the steps to remove all the screws again.

7 re-adjusted the trackball rollers, and tried everything out, by plugging in machine

and testing it. Then put control panel back on, and tested again, finally put it all

back together and tested one more time.

8 Centipede and Millipede are now 'playable', but due to the default settings,

missile command is not sensitive enough, and neither is liberator.

so i can sort of play half the games, ughh.

gameplay is ok, but still not up to arcade standard.

millipede 270-323k

liberator 87k, and advanced level 19 play

centipede, 197k, using blob strategy to 70k, using partially fixed trackball,

still not sensitive enough to go from left to right quickly enough.

got glens trackball last week, what a difference:

this says it all :       Centipede 995k

I hit 521k before that.

Before that I got stuck at 200k with the default trackball.

I stopped at 995k, because at 996k you get an extra man for everything you
hit [known bug], and I didn't want to go over a million, because the score goes
back to 0.
========================================================
IMPORTANT NOTE : YOU MUST REMOVE THE JUMPER FOR IT TO WORK PROPERLY
WITH THE DELAY. If you don't there is a huge delay, so you can't spin it as fast as
possible, you can only make slow precise movements.

Machine : Arcade1up Centipede Partycade
Mod : Glens Trackball
-----
Every game is improved and now playable.
I hit 20k on missile command [not good at that game]
I hit 100k on Liberator
In a few games, I was back up to 300k on Millipede.
==============================================================

The tape on the screen is a killspot due to glare from lighted trackball.
I set it to green.
