Somebody who knows quality, (You are my new best friend
😘) They do cost more, but are worth it IMO, since cheap bits on a router just sounds like a bad idea to me,...Mike, I don't generally take pics while working, these machines are like my babies, and taking naked butt bathtub pics of them for the interwebs is just not right.

Walk up to one with your phone and take a pic.

I asked for pics of one that is finished.

Why all of the evasiveness? I don't get it.

Not evasive just don't have any...I do not take pics while working, all the plans are in my head, and sell the machines usually before they are even done...I am however looking to start a new project.

I did hit the 200 machine mark awhile back, That is not to say builds but actual physical machines all at one time that do require some restoration, and they do keep me busy...However last month I sold some off (and parts) and currently down to 132 cabs, with no intention of replacing them.

Jenn - I've been searching for a Gyruss forever.
If you come across one of those - I'll come get it.
Doesn't need to work - just complete.

Now if you have 132 machines - I also would like a Star Wars at fellow woodworker prices  :)

132 machines?  Even the most die hard KLOV’er doesn’t even have anywhere close to that many.

Those pics are a disjointed grouping of crops from various websites.  One has a bid on it, and the backgrounds bear nothing cohesive to suggest this is in one place.  Sorry Jen but this all strains credibility.

I could care less what Klove does, or even how pathetic they are. That cig machine was an auction pic, i just got done saying I won it...and the rest of them, yes they are all too real.

KLOV is pathetic?  They recreated vector chassis, FPGA preservations of original games, reproduction cabs, digital vector generators, PCB repair threads, monitor repair threads, tutorials on painting & construction, and access to original hardware for people to trade and sell.

Now I realize this doesn’t compare to your contributions.....

With how much a pack of cigarettes cost now, that cigarette machine would be the most valuable machine you owned if you completely filled it.

Lol, You aint kidding...That one hasn't even been in the shop yet, I was planning to do a open it up thread for you guys (only reason I bought it), and check it out for those that were curious as to the inner workings, how many packs it actually holds, and credit units...But as Arroyo pointed out whats the point? Klove apparently already has that covered and Jenn would only be reinventing the wheel.

Those cigarette machines remind me of the bowling alley I used to go with my dad when I was a kid. It was also one of the first arcades I used to hang around at.

Well...The site seems overly complex to navigate, and they seem to be talking about same subjects Jenn has laying on her workbench, and been talking about for years over here @ BYOAC... They do however, attempt to document it, and seem more geared towards the real arcade machine, and consequently the preservation, less Mame...You were correct in a triple digit collection as being aparently a rare collection among not only that crowd, but here too, and probibally most every other site...Perhaps not pathetic. That was an assessment from years ago,  that does seem overly harsh today...Yes they passed. (but don't worry guys, Jenn aint going back)

If cigarette machines were still legal that is.  It's been federal law that tobacco products have to be "behind the counter" for some time now.   It's a good thing as it removes one easy access method for kids to get ahold of the stuff.

Yup, I remember a time when cigarettes were on the endcap of the register at drug stores. But that was 20 years ago.

@Haze - What old games are getting sound reworks?  Are they major titles like DK, Dig Dug, Pac, Ms Pac, Galage, etc or are they more obscure titles.  I haven't detected anything wrong with any of the sounds but I also don't have an original next to it to compare.

Really?

What about this?

Kids can get to that no problem especially when they are buying snacks on the machine to the right.

When they are determined, kids can do anything.   :lol

There was some recent break throughs in the late 70’s early 80’s Cinematronics Vectorbeam games (Star Castle, Armor Atrack, Space War, Star Hawk, Speed Freak, to name a few).  The sound on these was pretty poor but a lot was done in Mame .223:

Also I believe work to Burgertime was done on .222

Thanks.  I was going to go with an older version of MAME for a 4 way vertical build to save on CPU since they are just the early 80s classics.  However, Burger Time is on my game list, so I will try .224 with and 2nd gen i5 and see how it works.  Hopefully I wont need more CPU for that.

Also I believe work to Burgertime was done on .222

I have build my first cabinet based on a PC. I’m lucky that i know my way around, since setting it up was a pain in the .... I know that hyperspin isn’t the easiest, and that there are other solutions. But then there is windows with it’s own problems throwing into the mix.
For my second build i’m going to use a raspberry pi. I don’t need to emulate newer systems, since i do not add analog controls to it. So even N64 and psone are most likely not going to make it onto my cabinet. And for me it doesn’t need to be 100% accurate. Since i do not have a reference arcade machine To compare the game to. And according to the NTSC region, our PAL games run to slow anyway so i’m used to the games not being 100%.

The whole sound stream system in the core is being given a big overhaul for the next release, better resampling and limiting all round too.

People playing the music games for example have already commented that a lot of them are sounding much better with the current code from github even if they haven't been worked on specifically.

Sorry for not providing specific examples, but yeah, a lot of work is being done, although the performance requirements of some of it are a little high for me to feel comfortable promoting right now (eg. Space Fury is currently VERY demanding, but optimizations are still in progress for many of them, as the first step is 'get it right')

From what I have read, the law says that the machines can't be anywhere accessible to minors.  Bars and such where you need to be 21 to gain admittance are still ok.  But I think you would need a credit card mech nowadays for them to be usable, considering $12 a pack for weeds wrapped in paper.

Regardless, I have an antique one in the basement.  It has been there since before I bought the old Hotel and bar.  Been trying to figure out what to do with it, as I hate the thought of scrapping it.

Oh, and yeah, Pi's are a poor substitute for a decent PC and if the sound doesn't work right, the game is broken :)

Regardless, I have an antique one in the basement.  It has been there since before I bought the old Hotel and bar.  Been trying to figure out what to do with it, as I hate the thought of scrapping it.

How about making it a novelty machine and fill them full of these for a buck:

I loved them as a kid.
