Jennifer goes skateboarding
« on: August 25, 2020, 10:11:44 pm »
I have never rode on a skateboard, so, I decided to do it (dont expect much fancy),  I could have just went to W/mart and bought one, and rode it I supose, But that ain't the kind of girl Jenn is. So we are going to build one first, As we wait for the parts to show up, here is the base project, A vintage board, not all beat up, but showing signs of age, should clean up nice....So very EXCITING!

Does Jennifer ride a ramp or is Jennifer more of a street skater?

The parts seemed reasonable, However there are quite a few of them...And in total The board 100.00, and new parts 170.00...That stupid W/mart was only 50.00, just saying...It seems really scary However, sitting on it might be a good way to learn.

Wear a helmet.  My friend our age fell off a skateboard, hit his head, had a seizure on the way to the hospital, had another one a few months later, had his license suspended, and permanently lost his sense of smell.

Wheels are a little on the smallish side for a first build but 83a is a forgivingly soft durometer- nice choice.
But still, take pbjs advice about the helmet and find a flat dry lot with no sand or gravel.
Even really small pebbles at low speed act like heaving a big anchor off the stern.

Sand and rocks, never really thought about the world in such a way before but yes thats real, and can see how that could be very bad, And while thinking about it, cracks in the cement too...I wonder how flat concrete actually is, it looks flat, and acts flat when you park a car or walk on it, but on a skateboard if it had slight variation possibly not good?

These are the axels I picked, there were no reviews, and seems a little overkill...However, The problem we may run into in this project, is the width of the board (7.75) the width of those axels, and the offset of the tires, they may stick out a little...We shall see.

I am not sure how to make a video of this, Even uploading project pics I struggle with, crazy sideways, file too big, screenshots seem to be the right file size,, But I will give it some thought, I got a web cam thing on a stick I use for inspections, perhaps that may work...Anyway yes, if I can figger it out.

Those trucks (axle assemblies) should be fine too as long as they are not a lot wider than the board itself.  If the wheels stick out a little bit no huge problem but more than a half inch and you will almost certainly trip on them while pushing/kicking until you get used to it.
You'll just have to adjust kingpin tension so they don't flex too much and you get wheel bite on the deck.

Make sure you mount them with the kingpins on both of them to the center of the board and not rotated out toward the nose/tail !
Easy mistake to make if you haven't built one already.

Oh no, Well then we got our first problem...Those truck axels (already ordered) are already a bit wider then the board, but the wheels look kinda wide, I may have to reavaluate specs...I did the math on that thinking, wide and stable, not considering  to much of a good thing, and comprimised usability....Begining to think building one is not as easy as it looks.

As a 51-year old former casual skater who hasn’t been on his longboard in about 5 years, let me offer some safety advice, particularly if you’re over about 40.

- skateboards are harder to ride, faster, and less stable than you might expect. Most people above a certain age step on them and fall off within 10 feet, usually with the skateboard going one way and them going the other. Approach cautiously.
- start with some boards under the front and back wheels to keep you from going anywhere until you’re comfortable standing on the board and getting on and off.
- stay on flat ground until you can reliably control your turns, tail scrape, and get off while moving
- wear wrist guards, gloves, a helmet, and high top sneakers. Elbow and knee guards are optional.
- work on your flexibility. You should be able to stand on the board and crouch and grab the edge.

Good luck!

That not only sounds like good advice, but all I ever plan to do on this thing, I know Jenn talks big, but reality is slow motion chaos, That and building one, because that just seems fun with all the choices available...But for you, I would be curious, "casual longboard" you say, After looking into what that actually is, I am thinking, (after watching some guy go down a hill at like 100mph, on U/tubes) that would have to almost addictive at some point, and potentially a lifestyle.😉

Stoked for you!
Kingcade offers sage advice.
In lieu of boards to stop your wheels you can also enlist the help of someone strong (and preferably larger than you!) to literally hold both your hands until you can get acclimated to standing on something so slippery.

Other than that...
Knees bent, ankles, hips and shoulders in the same vertical plane and eyes level to the horizon.

Look down, fall down!

You can do this.

I guess I am the voice of reason here. You will get hurt. Possibly badly.

If you are over 40 the chances for injury are much greater.

What kind of physical shape are you in?

If you are naturally athletic and have good balance then you may be okay.

I know a guy who was probably late forties and a fat ass. He stepped on a skateboard last year. Immediately when he put his other foot on the board it shot out from under him and his left arm folded like an

accordion underneath him when he hit the pavement. It was pretty horrific.

Not even 40 yet here, tried to show the kids how to play Dance Dance Revolution and ended up in PT for a month to un-crunk my back.
Remember, just because it doesn't hurt when you're doing it doesn't mean it won't hurt later. :(

I skated on a street board when I was younger, and got a long board about 10 years ago. I never really road the long board much, since there weren't great places around here to ride them. I was never great at either of them, but I did manage to avoid getting hurt.  :dizzy:

Skated just about everyday day up till my mid 20's. A couple years ago I was messing with it in the garage with my board, had a little fall and was out for a few days just from that lol. Sucks growing up

This is not one of my better ideas, I will give that to you guys, your scary tales of impending doom is not helping my anxiety... I have never built a board before, so I will do a quick down and dirty build thread here to perhaps someday help someone else trying this...My first thoughts are like everything in this world there is a linearity to the process and genearally only one correct way to do it...Since I don't know how...Well, We will just tear it down and start over, not restoring it to pristine but as functional.

The teardown was easy, few bolts bla, bla, But when removing the old stickers I ran into the first problem...Incredibly cheap paint, the residue chem, would have just wiped the color off the board, Generally test first, but in this case just stop, before it gets worse.

The sandpaper tape came off nice, and residue was removed with damp acetone rags, being careful not to let it drip onto the other side, and eat the paint...

The wheels where a bit tricky, had to install bearings...I forgot the steel spacer in my first one so had the remove a bearing and redo it, That was done with a pigtail bore pick nothing fancy, and bearings set (after spacers installed) by just putting them on the axle and squeezing them with the bolt...The wheels are not going to stick out, all is good...

I would have to be of the opinion that those truck axels and tires are better than what came off there, (Althogh probably was set up for a different style of riding)...Anyway I know quality parts and great service when I see it...So a special shout out to my new friends...

I got a video However, I am so not posting that...Jenn hit the ground hard (3 times) And the last time hit my head so hard (backwards), I may have been knocked out for a minute, You guys were so right about the horrible dangers...I diddnt break anything but really, really hurt, But I did get to push and jump on the darn thing and even went down a small hill, The little rocks were the worst, the board just stops when you hit one...After my scrapes cuts and bruises heal I will try this again and possibly make a better video....Sorry for now.

Sorry to hear about the bumps and bruises.  :( It sounds like you got a concussion; you may want to get that checked out if you have any symptoms. At least wait a couple of weeks before trying again on pavement; concussions are supposedly worse if they happen close together.

Definitely get that helmet and some protective gear before trying again, and stick close to the grass so you can bail on to something softer than pavement.

Finally, it might not hurt to practice this falling maneuver:

Your board looks sweet!

Now please go find a helmet that you feel matches it appropriately-
And also that friend to help hold you up until your internal gyroscope gets the hang of what you are doing.

Over the past 30 years I have literally taught thousands of people to skate, snowboard and surf and a brain bucket and a friend are the most important elements of safely doing what you are trying.

No matter how old you are are (or are not!)
Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools! I can fix it.

I bought my son a board when I was around 45.  Hadn't been on a board in 25 years and was never that great but I still whipped out a few 360's.  Sure I fell a couple times when the board slid out.  The worst thing for me was hitting a tiny rock which brought the board to an immediate halt and sent me flying.  I'm not afraid to try.  I'm 54 now and started working out with a personal trainer 3 times a week and been doing it for a year.  Feeling great and I can squat my own weight several times.  I will never stop working out now that I feel the benefits.

Oh, all too real, swan dive on concrete hurts...I am old enough to know better, (Jenn was working the fiberglass dept, for Classic Roadsters back in the mid 80s should you want to guess my age)...But this skate board thing is aparently highly addictive, The next day I couldn't get out of bed, couldn't walk without extreme pain, but laying there, I was all replaying the events in my mind what went wrong? ...it was very exciting to cheat death so to speak, when I was actually rolling when things went to plan, then the little rocks and cracks loomed up, panic ensued and SPLAT!...Jenn feels better today, and I WILL try this again, (and get another vidieo)😉

Yeah. That is the way to do it. Get right back out there after a concussion. Why bother letting your brain heal before you bash it in again?

"but laying there, I was all replaying the events in my mind what went wrong?"

An unathletic and inexperienced old person got on a skateboard. That is what went wrong.

I skateboarded when I was a kid.

I wrestled for 8 years before junior high through high school.

I was in Taekwondo for 2 years.

I have been involved in kick boxing and jiu jitsu.

I jog several times a week and I weight train on and off.

I carry too much weight in my gut, but overall I have excellent balance and a very strong core.

I am also short, so my center of gravity is good.

I still have no desire to get back on a skateboard.

If something is going to kill my brain it will be alcohol.

That sounds like a well rounded childhood with lots of physical activity...When I was younger, Jenn was going to be a crop duster when she grew up, So I spent years hidden in the basement researching principal of flight, and building model planes (pretty much just sniffing glue and airplane dope), Well in hindsight most of those boys are ex military, and have a short lifespan...Jennifer never did fly off into the sunset.

jennifer I have it all figured out.  The board you posted is all a ploy.  You are actually Paul Pinto and you created the board shown on the video below.  I have figuratively taken off your Scooby Doo villain mask.  The highlights of today are as follows:
•   I finally know what ‘that jennifer’ looks like
•   He created an awesome 25’ board
•   jennifer really knows how to skate

Definitely get that helmet and some protective gear before trying again, and stick close to the grass so you can bail on to something softer than pavement.

So much THIS!  The last time I was on one was as a kid.  It wasn't the fancy type boards you see everywhere now, but a skinny, flimsy, cheap department store board which could be found everywhere in the 80's.  Walked up a steep 1/2 mile long hill by where I grew up and decided to try riding down it.  By time I was half-way down, I was probably going 20mph.  The ass-end of the board started fishtailing wildy and I dove into the weeds on the side of the road.  No protective gear whatsoever (could hardly afford the cheap board.)  Had I not had that option, my current self would probably have been very different or non-existent.  As it was, it was difficult to walk home after that event, even at that age. Threw it in the trash when I got there :)

You know Randy, I think that is where the lure may be, after all these years, horrible nightmares, visions of horror, there is just something about beating that one ride, even years after the fact...I failed miserably, got back up tried it again, contemplated it when I was too  beat up to even ride it, suffered for weeks...And decided perhaps it was the board, too fancy for a beginner maybe?...Well...

I went to W/mart for a cheap board, (just to see), The Tony Hawk pro model (25.00) was junk, wouldn't even roll...Went to a sports store bought a longboard (plastic trucks, 60.00) this worked but felt huge and went really fast, although quite stable...Thinking thats not a real skateboard however because of its size, Went back to W/mart...The kryptonics board (25.00) had nice wheels,But board was fish looking and felt dangerous, So Jenn put the wheels on the Tony board...Effectively making another Sims pink fly board for 50.00...Well I crashed again (last night), This time hurt both wrists, left elbow, back of right leg, and possibly broke a rib, cause it hurts like hell...I have come to the conclusion nice boards, cheap boards, Large boards, (And in Randy's case Small boards) all command a serious amount of respect...Now Jenn has 3 boards, I will get one of these to ride for a sustained period of time, once I heal up a little.

My plan was to visit every state and touch the wheels of my skateboard to the local skateparks...Well aparently skatboarding is not cool anymore or something, can't find any parks, So will just hit every state (lower 48 Us.) If I can, and then Jenn should be pretty good at it I am hoping...After my rough start, I did 3 states today Co...Ks...And Mo.

This was a toll booth in Kansas, miles and miles if nothing, then a toll booth, did not expect that but stopped...It went well, got to push around a couple times.

Speaking  of covid, and traveling, I dont have any masks, or gloves just a bottle of rubbing alcohol for my hands...Seems most of the world is business as usual, no mask, no worrys and really don't care anymore, Restaurants are open, people at the mall, the world is still spinning...Will quarantine for 14 days when I get home however, just because. Still rolling, not sick, ate a meat stick, life is good...I will try to get some better pics and vids once I get a little better.🤪

ND to Denver, CO to Fulton, MO in one day? That is like 1200 miles at least.

Denver to Fulton alone is over 700 miles.

And you stopped in multiple places to look for random skateparks?

Stop smoking crack.

You are either making everything up or exaggerating things to the breaking point.

Anyways. Keeping track of your ---That which is odiferous and causeth plants to grow--- is annoying. So have a good trip wherever you are going. Wear a helmet when you are riding that skateboard.

I don't have any more to say in this thread.

Thats 2 days idiot, the first day I got hurt when I feel off, so I diddnt ride in SD, or NB, because I was too sore, And since that's what I am doing diddnt take the pics until Co. When I could ride again...I am looking up skateparks on my phone, not driving around every city...This is a big country, and 600 to 800 miles a day takes me all day, Aparently even the pics you dont believe, but since you left this thread just got more fun, and I will take the pics for everybody else...today I am thinking maybe towards GA. That sounds pretty., (Walking dead Lol, Jenn does the zombie growl sounds, over pancakes, Giggle)

I am thinking on giving up looking for skakeparks however, just ride in random places (still can't ride, little embarrassing), And I may be a little old for that crowd anyway, like the creepy dude at high school that can buy beer...I think they call this street skating...Or possibly learning to skate😬

Today in Mo. Jenn tries to be cool and learn her first trick, so, I stomped on the end of the board and tried to catch it when it flew into the air,...It flipped over and hit my left leg...OWCH!

This is kinda fun, a pic of the arch in St.Louis ("Gateway to the west")for you guys that have never seen it, apparently there is a little trolly ride thing inside it and you can ride to the top...I was going to skateboard under it, but got lost, and this is as close as I got...Fun pic though.😉

As for my skateboard project, Jenn really sucks at it...I am thinking alot of it is psychological, and since after that last crash I am actually getting worse because of the fear of falling again...I dont have the smooth transition like you see in the movies, more jerky and unstable, cant balance, and cant stop...I will get through this however...

Today IL...If you guys watch the news like Jenn you would think bullets were flying around and it was some kind of war zone...Not what I saw, Really friendly salt of the earth, hard working people, and quite modern as most of it was comercial big box, strip mall kinda outlet...I skated a mall parking lot, diddnt crash, quite unstable however.

KY...There were Waffle houses like everywhere, So I tried one, It was fun, the server takes your order, then turns around and dictates it to the cook, the cook dictates it back as confirmation and you watch him cook your dinner...I skated the parking lot, got lucky I think, I got a small ride down the sidewalk, (holding on to building for balance)

And finally Ga!...We made it!.(dance,dance)...First observations were tall scruffy pines (and probbibally, horrible snakes and spiders) and really nice highways, like incredible, I am curious if the pavement is different than other states, I will analyze that tomorrow in the daylight...I am probibally going to spend the day in Atlanta, shopping (and skating) then we will get back to some more states😜 (sorry for bad pic, It was late)...This makes 7 out of 48

Thx, regrets in life are things not tried I am thinking...Normally once a year I go looking for a lost gold mine with my friends, but they diddnt want to go this year, and Jenn Really,Really don't like snakes anyway, So why not this?...Riding a skateboard, or trying anyway is highly addictive, like that one good ride will make up for all the misery, and incredibly fun when all goes to plan, downside is things go bad incredibly fast, and it is a split second decision as to ones fate.

Atlanta, Ga, The only way to describe it is OMG...Ok guys I skated Ga. *Parking lot over behind the car parts store (And feel lucky to be alive)...I was going to do FL. next, but since this has to be high on my list of crazy things Jenn has done, I sat on the grass and thought, the last time I was having fun was Nashville, so I am backtracking to there, then going West TX, perhaps...

I for one think the skate-safari is excellent.
Glad you are minimizing injuries.

Have you incorporated any arcade stalking while you are out roaming around?!
I envy anyone who can drive for more than 2 hours and not see the same scenery again.

And the Summit crew rocks!

I usually binge when I travel like way too much, then get disapointed when I get there, Atlanta really freaked out this small town girl, The city lights, outshined the stars, the level of stress and chaos was astounding, and big OMG. (I imagine one would get used to it, but still, OMG)...hopefully I can get Fl. from the panhandle (I may not get all states, but I will try my best)...Yes I look for arcades, not seeing any though, there was one at a W/mart the other day, nicer than I am accustomed, they had a Jurassic park I wanted to play soooo bad, but it was all chained up, The covid thing I supose...That Summit place was really big, the front of that building was like all glass and had race cars in the showroom window, super cool, I should have got a pic of that, but, out back behind the building was quiet and dark, I so needed that at the time.

That hardly even seems fair, From what I am seeing probibally half the people wear masks at all, generally You have to wear one into say a restaurant, (where you can sit at every other table), gas station or wal mart but once you get in you can take it off, I don't even have one, I been just rinsing my hands with alcohol after touching doors, or gas pumps, not touching my face, and staying like 10 feet away from people in lines and such...Havent seen anyone coughing, or looking dead or anything.

Which brings up a curious point...This board I built from W/mart had probibally the worst reviews ever in the history of skateboards (shame on you Tony Hawk for selling out) anyway, It didn't roll, reviews were not wrong, the wheels and bearings were replaced with another board from W/mart (kryptonics) and that fixed the rolling issue, Well... the wheels are bigger, and If I lean too much, they hit the bottom of the board, it stops like instantly and crash!...The bushings also feel cheap as compared the my pink fly board built at the beginning of this thread, but it is the same physical shape, and approximate size of that board, just cheap...(50.00 for both W/mart boards) as compared to 300.00 with that Sims.

Texas!, almost like its own country, weirdest thing, take a exit ramp, and you got to use the service road to loop back under the bridge to get where you want to go, Like driving around in circles until you get there,, (but not all ramps are like that, some are actually two ways) really confusing... East Texas seems nothing like  the West side, perpetually populated, and spread out, with little scrub pine, bush trees...Havent skated yet, thinking Dallas/Ft Worth area...Houston seems like it may be more of a fun area however, they seem to be on the gulf, and would be more of a tourism attraction. (I would think)...Anyway while in Texas, eat BBQ meat I guess...See you guys in awhile😎...*(Havent seen any cowboys yet)

There are vastly different quality and durometer of truck bushings but you should be able to work with whatcha got.
And you can adjust the tension on those kingpin bushings if you have the right size wrench!
If you are getting wheel bite then tighten them down a bit to limit their lateral squishiness.
Quarter turn at a time until you get to the right amount of side to side what-have-ya when you are riding that thing.

And make sure you torque front and back equally so as to not make things more wacky.

And press on!
Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools! I can fix it.

I was kinda thinking, just tighten the back one so not to lose the turning, but I get what you are saying, especially if I am riding it backwards, And it is not like Jenn is riding pools or anything,
just get good enough to ride it at all,, and eventually off curbs, which to you guys sounds simplistily easy I supose,  but actually looking at it from a skateboard yes kinda a big deal and scary ...Tighted the trucks 1/4 turn, off to Dallas to give it a try!🤫

#9...Tx. (Farmers branch)...There were like toll roads and express ways in Dallas, so I went up to the North side, Pic doesnt scream Tx , and Mike will think Jenn is lying I supose, But Hope PBJ could verify it as Dallas area if comes to that,  beings how it is a medical place and all (Figgered if I was laying dead in their parking lot, they could give me therapy or something when they came to work,
LOL)...The tree is really cool, like a big short shade tree, the parking lot quiet, well lit (@ 5:00 in the morning) and not flat, like really not flat, off to the left one could almost consider a small hill...JENNIFER RIDES A SKATEBOARD! Not fast, not graceful but go did She...so much fun!🤪

I did find the secret to this skateboard thing, if anyone else is planning to try this (at least for riding it)...When your front foot is up front over the wheels pointing forward with all your weight on it, as you push with your other foot, at this point it is kinda wobbly Well, when you finally jump on, (aparently where my trouble was) it is still a bit unstable because all your weight is now on the board at this point...But if put the foot you were pushing with on the back of the board and turn sideways you can balance it almost like riding a bike, And go fast, Omg, so very fun...I bet with some practice I can actually step off the board while its moving, and step back on it with the other foot, it would be a timing thing like jump rope...So excited!

Riding off curbs still seems advanced for me however, still scary...If I had to guess how that is done, I would say it would most likely be a speed, weight distance thing, The physics involved would almost dictate to be lifting the front wheels, while going fast enough to clear the curb, and of course any garbage...Not really a "plop" but more of a controlled wheelie while moving fast enough.

Dallas to Boston is one heck of a drive sister!
From a former life of mine I can verify pics from almost anywhere within 300 miles of there for any doubters  ;)

Riding off curbs is where it gets scary (and major injuries can start occurring!)

Need to unweight the board almost entirely and maybe (ever so) slightly shift your center of mass more toward your back foot.

Safe travels.

And find somewhere to play a real video game!
 :laugh2:

#10...Va...Seems there is not a flat piece of cement in this whole state I have seen, It is like mountain top, hills going up, or down...I did find out the faster you go the easier it is to balance however, kinda like a bike is harder to ride slow. The hills were difficult, since the little wheels on a skateboard would turn really fast in a very short time on a hill...Not dead.

I diddnt know to look for a river, I was looking at a map, I guess there was some water between the two states, (hence the bridge)...But all worked out in the end, Brooklyn was actually quite fun to skate, I was there for quite awhile...Old concrete is hard to ride on however a chunk of cement can be a bad thing on a skateboard, mostly landing on it, but it will also stop dead in your tracks...It was fun, Jenn won't ever forget that day.

I thought there was something special about that place (wink😘) From what I saw, that could be considered a hard area to build an arcade machine without making the neighbors angry, Running saws in the night, and spraying toxic chems....Yes Pbj I will get to that...It is cold here, thinking maybe go up to Vermont today, then out west (sorry if I miss a couple states this trip)...CA. maybe

All my old stomping grounds-

You, my lady are certainly doing your part for the economy burning fuel anyway!
Still waiting on some arcade action.

I envy everybody who could just jump in a car and drive to Brookfield, IL

If you are ditching the car and making it to Hawai'i you'll have to let me know.

I can see why your grandparents did that, as it it cheaper not stopping until you have to, Me, well between winter coming, and this corona thing I am just moving fast, and skating hard when I stop. There are alot if things I would like to see, The most recent is vermont, the whole state is not what I expected, and has the look of black sand and mountains (Yes gold) Jenn should have brought a pan😬...Bobby, I grew up in the glory days of arcades, and have watched the steady decline over the years, there may still be a couple machines in the wild, but since the 90s and home consoles, more recently the cell phone, and finally corona virus, I would have to say the arcade is officially dead...I do have a triple digit collection back at the house however, far more machines than anything I am seeing out on the road...Secretly Jenn looks at C/list in the night looking for good deals, but not seeing much of that really either.

Galloping Ghost in Chicago has over 700 machines. A little over an hour from my house. https://www.gallopingghostarcade.com/

The Underground Retrocade has like 200 games. 30 minutes from my house. https://undergroundretrocade.com/

There are smaller arcades and barcades dotted all over the county. There are also collectors like me that actually let people come and play games in their real collections.

Unlike your games, there is actual photographic evidence that these places exist. Again, one pic of you in your massive collection of games would be nice.

In your skateboard thread you have taken plenty of pictures of road signs.

Do you know what is missing? A single pic of you on a skateboard in one of these fascinating places.

In all of your aimless zigzagging across the country did you think about making even one human connection?

You obviously are living in a bubble, since these machines were predominantly manufactured in the Chicago area, ya cheap monitors, arcades everywhere, whatever, Not the case elsewhere, and even more difficult over the pond, where choices are far and few...My friends know Jenn as someone who DOES NOT LIE, someone who if she says she has a triple digit collection you can take that to the bank, And somebody who understands the physical construction of a machine far beyond what you can only dream...I regress however, this is a skateboard thread, Jenn can barely skate at all, and was only documenting the state signs since I cant film myself skatboarding and worried  about falling on my phone even if I tried...This thread is over, (Sorry to those that were having fun😒) But rest assured Jennifer will skate your state.

What does that have to do with anything I said? Of course there are businesses failing right now. Especially in the service industry. You said the arcade is dead. It is not.

I don't even know what a lier is. So I cannot comment on that.

With the overhead on that many non paying machines...The industry as a whole will most likely never recover.

You are not so cute when you reduce yourself to name calling.

Show me where I said that the arcade industry is not suffering under the current conditions we are all facing?

Visiting friends? You said you couldn't get any pics of yourself on the skateboard because you can't do it by yourself.

Do your friends know how to take a pic?

Things don't have to be this acrimonious. I asked for pics in several of your threads and you never provided them. It makes you look like a liar.

When I wouldn't let up in one thread, you took pics of some junk that was supposed to represent your massive arcade collection.

When someone talks as much as you do it is time to put your cards on the table. Are you for real or not?

If you show pics of all of the stuff you regularly boast about, then I will apologize and never bother you again.

Oh. And you did not read that article correctly at all. Don't quote numbers when you have no idea what you are talking about.

You mean the machines that there is no photographic evidence of?

I already read that article, and many other others just like it, I just bought out an arcade vender that choked under the weight of the restrictions...If you had any brains at all, you would have asked Jenn where and how her collection grew so fast...And again I have posted pics,

You posted a pic of a cigarette vending machine and a busted up poker table.

Then you posted a couple of pics of a couple busted up Buck Hunters and driving cabs.

Nice try.

Sells machines for $15,000 but no pics.

Owns 300 games but no pics.

Travels across the country in a week, posts generic pics of road signs.

Just the fact you seem to think I owe you anything, much less a pic makes you seem a little creepy and pathetic...I have posted random pics over the years, in random threads so sorry you missed them ( But just in case I am removing some of the more fun ones just so you can have a meltdown)...The cigg machine, Is the only one of that lot I have left and it is still on the dock, and hasn't been picked up yet, but again for whatever reason you don't even believe that...I dont care...If you could do ANYTING in the context of building or restoring a game I nay have taken you seriously, But fact is you can't weld,You can't paint, Do you even own a scanner? And at best you got your friends doing your hobby for you, While you are aparently to drunk to drive yourself to the hardware store most of the time...I offer up just like Jenn always has insight to physical construction and restoration of many years of experience and the parting out of games in the study of industry standards of the time period, of random manufacturers...And conduct and share the results of manufacturing  practices...My only weak link so to speak is writing code, and even tonight will be looking at some 6800 disassembly in an attempt to understand, better myself, and hopefully share the results someday...What do you got to offer? Demanding pics is NOT going to happen.

If you think people expecting you to post an occasional pic of your cabinets on a forum where the whole point it to share pics of cabinets and other projects is "creepy and pathetic" then I guess we are all a bunch of creepy and pathetic losers and you should just move on to greener pastures.

You've made some pretty bold claims over the years and the way I see it it's one of two things......  either you are telling the truth and for some reason you are unwilling to share any meaningful pictures of your adventures, or you are lying to us and don't post pics because you can't.  If you are telling the truth then what you are doing isn't cool.  Engage with the community because we would genuinely like to see what you are up to.   If you are lying I honestly don't understand why.  We try to be accepting of anyone that isn't a jerk and more than a few people who are jerks (looks in mirror).  If you want to just hang out that's cool.... no need to make stuff up.

Jenn - I'm an advanced / expert woodworker.  I've shared a significant amount of my builds with the forum..  My strong suit isn't gaming  - its woodworking and electronics.
My signature has links to my site which is filled with information to pass on..  in the same way I've learned from the net.  Its a good economy..  keeping the knowledge moving..

I watch pretty closely and you once had a burned up pinball machine that you seemingly started to restore.
That's the most I've ever seen.

So - if you know all of this stuff and have all of these skills - I for one would like to see them..
A burned up pinball a couple of years back is a pretty weak contribution to the forum if your talent level is where you say..
Your response is "I don't have to prove anything"  - you don't - but what's the big secret?

You've proven at minimum you know you to get a picture off your phone an onto the forum..  what's the big deal?
You like to talk a lot - so you're not shy - yet nothing to show off ..
There are way too many contradictions in your statements and actions - but you want to be taken seriously..
You're not making it easy..

You guys want the truth?...Truth is I been on this site many years helping, when can and never feeling the need to lie, why, what would even be the point...Truth is Jennifer I would have thought this Princess would have had one friend here...Truth is yes I do have a triple digit collection...But that is not what I am working on, those machines are in storage... Truth is my last real arcade build was that fire damaged pin...Now for the rest of the story..

Mike A knows this is my last build, we have talked about it in other threads...A large screen (27") color vector, mostly experimental but a couple years later the math is done, and the art is being modified in last stages and screens are being made...However, Truth...As all this boring experimenting is going on (no need for pics, Because ya, BORING)...The rest if the cab is to be a FULLY COMPOSITE Star wars cab....This means gallons and galons of resin fiberglass and yes lamination, This is to be done in temperate controlled conditions as to keep cure times stable and predictable...Soooo

So what you are looking at here is a piece of 2 years of work, This is the intake side of a heat bake, downdraft paint booth...Not much to look at yet, but basicicly it is a two inch thick wall of heavy guage steel with filters.. but this is only the intake side, I designed it, fabricated it all myself, welded it, made the media frames, and holders, painted it industrial white, the light tower, door, and a 6 hole ungodly heavy exhaust chamber, the blast gate is hooked to a heated bypass, variable speed (explosion proof fan and wiring)  and...Tiled the floor with fire brick, It is the final phase of construction, And meanwhile parts are coming in...Jennifer has nothing to hide, I am proud of my work...I do believe greener pastures are in my future however, because PICS,PICS, lier,PICS is creepy and pathetic, and aparently I aint got many friends here anyway...Good luck on your builds guys.😘...And enjoy your pic Mike, it is the last one you will ever see from me...Now you guys have the truth, Jennifer has been a busy girl, and taking a much needed skateboard vacation.

All this time I was just hoping for a picture of somebody skating in the Galloping Ghost parking lot.

Or even just a picture of the Galloping Ghost parking lot.

Stuff like his bald faced lying “I was at ZapCon and you guys didn’t know it!!1!!” Bull to the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

In light of recent posts, Jenn stopped taking state travel documentation pics, However, I got to thinking about you guys that were having fun...So here is an update...Jen has been driving and skating 14 hours a day, I am tired, hungry, and dirty, usually cold too, but it is hot today. I took a really hard fall on my bad hip in Indiana, and when my head hit the ground, my teeth chomped together, and I broke one, so been rinsing my mouth out with hydrogen peroxide till I get home so I don't get infection...Good news, I am 1 hour from the CA. line, I am going to stop in Reno for the night, and you guessed it, tomarrow Skate CALIFORNIA!...Both coasts of the United States in a week!...So very excited, Cant wait!

The good news, I am in Ca. San Francisco area (American canyon) up the North side, The cement here is amazing, like ultra smooth architectural type stuff, that even has a cool shine on it even in the night, the weather is dreamy, And did finally find a cute guy walking by to get a pic for you guys (without stealing my phone) ....The bad news, I would imagine some of you were secretly wondering how this thread would end, And now we know...I did NOT skate Ca. I could not step up on it without severe pain, The more I tried the worse it got, Finally gave up crying in the night, This adventure is over (Epic fail) And feel bad if I diddnt get to skate your state (sorry)...Jenn will be fine however, I have put the skateboard away and going to Mexico (to get some dental work done,) Then this Princess is going home.😔

You know guys...I been laying here with ice bags thinking about Trumps wall, and all the hassles of border crossing, I am feeling considerably better, with possible exception of drooling on myself because of too much Orajel...I am going back...I will skate CA, It may not be fast, It won't be pretty, If I don't get a pic, I dont care this is personal... and then home. Thinking rather than Napa area, going to try Oakland.

Well, the "wall" as you say, would be trouble if you were trying to cross illegally in a remote area I guess, but ports of entry have been the same for decades. chopperthedog thinks you're bummed, cause Jennifer isn't considered essential under the current travel restrictions.

LMAO...That is funny...Covid is real, However all I have done with this whole trip is constantly wash my hands with alcohol, (still don't have a mask) and try not to touch my face, Jenn feels fine in that respect...My Tooth however seems out of place, from that Indiana fall,  if that makes any sense, And is aparently broken,, I want to be closer to home in case that turns into something difficult to fix...If you guys around the world are curious that trip from Maine to California was 3500 miles (dont know what that is in KM) But it is a long drive.

I was on the sidewalk rubbing my hip, and spitting peroxide like I been doing, thinking ya, just ride it. Well sidewalks out in the Bay area kind of dish into the street like a trough kinda thing so ride, down the trough into the street, Easy right?... Well not really, but I did, and thought I was done, Jennifer rode the sidewalk, done, big deal...I stood in the middle of the road, smelling the ocean breeze, thinking of you guys as I looked down this long curved road seeming going nowhere (you know where this is going dont you😈)...So I went and got that big longboard, stood on that sidewalk for like seemed forever, And let it roll (I cant stand and push because my hip hurts, so using gravity at this point) it went click, click, click down the sidewalk, hit that gutter trough, shot me into the street, curved the the right, and that road had me...The first 10 feet would have been sketch to stop with my bad hip, but I could have, That was my last comprehensive thought, Time and space and even sound vanished, I come around that last curve felt like 100mph...Paralyzed with fright I couldn't move just following the centrifugal force of the turn it at that point started going uphill and became councius of the bearings of the wheels and the wind in my face, and not dead...If you guys ever even thought about rides on a skateboard you gotta do Ca. at least once in your life...Thx again guys, Jennifer is going home.

Update to this insanity...Today I decided to try again and perhaps even learn a trick, it is cold here so I went down to the motel to skate the service hallway, Well it did not go so good...Aparently I am afraid to try again after finally healing up (for the most part, hip still hurts sometimes)...I put my foot on it, and just could not jump on...Fear, and failure is in Jenns head...Will have to try again.😒

Curiously the wheels on my board are big soft cruiser wheels with risers and gets the board pretty high in the air, Thinking that center if gravity is not optimal for learning a trick, so ordered some new smaller harder wheels...I was watching some reviews on helmets, and aparently some of them implode inwards upon impact, It seems safer to not have one at all.

Covering my bottom with bubble wrap might be a better plan, That's where I usually land when I fall, Lol...But for now, Jennifer is afraid to even put both feet on the board, Physiological I know, but still scary.

Giggle, you make that sound easy...Yes little rocks are bad, learned that the hard way, the big soft wheels are helping with that from what I remember, and those smaller hard wheels are going to need some thought on that subject...But to actually do it, I remember...Push, Push, Push jump on turn feet sideways...Just afraid of the jump on part right now, probibally because of the hell I went through at the dentist...And my hip, I am wondering if that wasn't actually broke or something cause it was bad, and still hurts sometimes.

As for a trick, I want to ride off a curb, but the physics of that is not as easy as it looks... First would be speed, going fast enough to clear the gutter (and all those little rocks), and getting the board into the air (I know, it sounds crazy) But flying through the air into the street would solve multiple problems, so That Ollie pop shove trick is my next thing...After I get all brave again (If ever) 😒

But that said...It incorporates two of my biggest fears, doing a controlled wheelie, and landing on the edge of the board. (And of course falling face down into the road).😳

I would advise against trying to get off curbs before you can cruise anywhere without damage.
The whole walk before you try to run thing-

Snowboarding is far less painful !

And surfing is the best of all of them

 ;)

Jenn, much as I admire your work I still think you are crazy trying to learn skateboarding at age over 40 (but you are still 21, right?). However, I like a bit of crazy so just hoping your medical insurance is good :D

Agree with Bobby that surfing is the best. You don't even need a board if you learn to body surf :o

Well yes true Jennifer is not as young as she once was, But I am not stupid either, sliding down handrails, off garages, dropping into a pool, ya not going to happen here...And I do realize I need more experience to just ride at all consistently, but riding off a curb (what 6 inches or so?) Is a personal goal, means to an end anyway, and doesn't seem all that unrealistic...Probibally even quite boring and considered a lame trick for some...That last ride in CA, was probibally the most exciting horrifically dumb thing Jenn has ever done in this lifetime but was strangly satisfying and addictive. (Although going that fast ever again would just give me a heart attack and just kill me dead), so some slow lame trick it is.

I'd like to be good enough at skateboarding to be able to do this, like Walter Mitty

I speak from the experience of remembering how unpleasant my first trip off a curb was- and I was already quite proficient at snowboarding and could surf too at the point I began riding a skateboard.

I hit the deck of course- my head hurt for a few days and one of my shoulders for over a week- and I was 23.

I got to the point I was riding ramps and pools and bombing big hills (no handrail self- flagellation though!) and still had to quit the whole thing by the time I was 30.  It was keeping me from being able to work and surf.

Even with pads and skill skateboarding is fraught with injury.

Love your enthusiasm but... maybe bike riding is a better way for you to roll around with some speed?!

Actually I realise now that I have done runs like Walter Mitty's, just on roller blades and bicycles and not in Iceland.

These days I stick with a bicycle, though even that managed to put me in a hospital a few years ago (I was in "no-man's land", on bridge between Laos and Thailand, where they have a railway track set into the middle of the road. At one point track cuts at an angle across the road, no signage. Going fast for a bike, ~40+ km/h. Front bike wheel fitted perfectly into the railway track groove...).

After about 3 months I was able to waddle about reasonably well (for short distances without a stick), sporting a cheerful red 2 inch smiley-face scar on the inside of my right ankle from where the claw pedal ripped into me. Should have worn boots rather than just sandals. Healing takes longer when you are older. Limited mobility sucks. Always wear a helmet.

Ouch-

I mean REALLY ouch.

Had numerous slams on numerous pieces of equipment myself- and that really sounds unpleasant.

Gotta get back on...

Had a few nasty bike accidents. when was about 12 was hit from behind by a 1.25 tonne Holden ute (pickup). Fortunately I avoided major injury by landing on my head. With no helmet. I don't remember much of the 3-day hospital stay over Christmas except the screaming pain in my brain.

I was lucky to not be dead or a vegetable. Always wear a helmet.

I noticed it is much easier and less scary the faster you go (to a point anyway) but the cracks it the sidewalk seemed to dissappear with speed and inertia.

Ha, that's funny...It's so much fun I get excited and just like to share it with you guys the adventures, boring without pics, I get that but filming yourself on a skateboard well... let's just say it would be nice to have some friends around...Curiously there were some kids over at that skatepark, just hanging out, too icy here to skate (and don't think they had boards with them anyway), And not bothering anyone, it is there park after all... But got Jenn thinking, It would be a lot like hanging out at the high school at my age to go over there, so I probibally won't anymore.

Oh yes I hope so, Ultra stale is actually kinda hard to find...This machine actually came from auction, from a building with white mold, thats why it took so long, it has been in quarantine for a few months (My choice, as not to contaminate other machines) the smokes are obviously sealed however so Dance, Dance...It will get another mold treatment, and a few more months of solitude before it actually comes to the shop.

I am sooooooooo jealoous of your cigarette machine.  That brings up college memories.  We had one right in the dining hall, and even though you could walk three blocks to a gas station to get cigarettes for 1.20 a pack, we still paid 1.50 a pack for the convenience of using the vending machine.

Sigh..... that's almost as much nostalgia as video games

When we were kids, we would run by and shove a few coins in one, and run away so we wouldn't get caught, and another one of us would run by with another coin,  so and so forth...Good memories.
