button spacing question

Sephroth57:

sorry i tried searching and it appears broke, i tried advanced and normal. but anyway a little while ago someone posted a button layout that had inch measurrements and everything for a 6 button layout. does anyone have a link to this pic or some info on correct button spacing?

also about the joystick hole, i noticed most places say you make the hole the same size as the button hole, is this right? i guess you would do that stick the bottom through and then put the black circle thing that covers the hole over it and then the knob on top, correct?

Pete Harcoff:

I can't speak for other people, but I like my buttons really close together (about 1/8" between bezels).

And you're right about the joystick thing.  Just drill a same-sized hole and then cover it with that little plastic round thingee.

i think it's somewhere here

soslo:

drill the buttons hole 1 1/8"
Drill the joystick holes 1 1/2"

The little floppy cover for the joystick will cover up to a 1.5" hole. If you drill too small of a hole, then you run the risk of hitting the joystick shaft on the wood and limiting the joystick action.

If you use a metal CP, then make a smaller hole for the joystick. Wood, use 1.5"
As far as spacing goes, I use 1.5" center to center for the buttons, and it leaves about 1/8" in between  the bezels. If you leave more spacing for that with a SF2 style layout, then the buttons are too far apart and become uncomfortable to play.

I think the one you may be looking for is the second one listed.

I made my button and joystick holes the same size (1 1/8") and it is fine.  You are correct about how to install the joystick.  Just put the black washer over the hole.
