ROWE (Antique Apparatus) CD 100 software update to 4.3
« on: August 19, 2020, 10:38:44 pm »
In trying to ID the version software that I have in my Central Control Computer, (40832201) I found that the "system error" light was on. (see attached picture)
So, I want to upgrade to the version 4.3 software, on my computer, but I'm not sure exactly how to do that and now I am wondering what the system error might be indicating.
Can anyone help me decipher how to ID the error light and determine what version software I have and how do I upgrade it, please?

Software version is right there on the chip label. I circled it in your picture.

Thanks Ken.

So am I to understand that all I need to do is swap out the EPROM chip, for a version 4.3 or should I find a CCC that already has it installed?

I ask, because I picked up a conversion kit (#66505907) to upgrade my CDM-3 to a CDM-12 and wanted to know if it cold work on a CCC with a 2.3 version EPROM chip, which is what I currently have on my CCC?

BTW, do I need to change my CDM-3 mechanism and carousel to a CDM-4 mech & carousel , in order to have the conversion kit work?

Yes, just swap out the existing eprom for an eprom that already is burned with 4.3 software. Be aware that some early Central Control Computer boards only had a 28 pin IC socket and the eprom was a 512kb sized 27512 eprom. From software version 3.2 and up, a 1mb sized eprom (27010) is required. This larger IC also is 32 pins so a 32 pin socket may be needed. However, some Central Control Computer boards already have a 32 pin socket installed for the larger eprom. If it does, you'll see the smaller IC installed, but with 4 empty pins in the socket.

A complete CDM3 to CDM12 (a.k.a. CDPRO) conversion kit has everything you need. You DO NOT need to upgrade to a CDM4 with this kit.

Here are the instructions for the kit:

Ken, thanks again for your reply and the information.

I did check my CCC board, and have a 32 pin socket, with a 28 pin (ver. 2.3) eprom chip. (see attached)

I was under the impression that I needed to have a CDM4 since the instructions referenced it and also showed it in the drawings, when converting  over to a CDM12.
I also had read that the frame for a CDM4 was different, since it had a different CD player.
BTW, I found a Rock-Ola eprom for sale (ROCK-OLA JUKEBOX EPROM #58824-3.9). I guess my question is, would upgrading to this version eprom suffice or is there more benefit to wait and find a version 4.3? For that matter, since I am convertion over to a CDM12, should I be looking for a ver. 5.3 eprom?
