  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hi guys,

I just wanted to share with you a mini-arcade cabinet I just found in Indiegogo:

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/switch-fighter--2

They describe it as a Nintendo Switch accessory, but being a bluetooth fighting stick as well it should work with anything that supports bluetooth, tablets, or consoles with gamepad adapters.

I hope they manage to complete the campaign. I always wanted a mini-arcade cabinet but I don't have the skills for a DIY project :)

Reminds me of the controller addon thing for the iPads back in the day.

Not sure how much use I'd get out of it, but I went ahead and backed it.

Ah, the iCade. I bought that one as well but I barely had any arcade game for the iPad and the device was not compatible with anything else so I didn't quite like that specific model.

Yeah, I had one too and threw it away recently. IIRC, it used some weird Bluetooth keyboard protocol and just a few games like the Atari Classics game. Had it come out a few years later when Apple standardized game controllers, it would have been more successful.

That actually looks pretty good. As for Icade's I have both the phone version and the larger tablet version. I will one day do something with the Ipad version :) The Bluetooth controller in it sucks though, proprietary turdlets.

I didn't buy an iCade because...I didn't own an iPhone or iPad. Maybe it would have worked with my Android stuff at the time, but I didn't feel like trying.

Anyway, there's a cheaper version on their campaign now - the Switch Fighter Lite. It gets rid of the dock functions (charging and TV out), and has "high quality classic joystick & buttons" instead of the Sanwa controls, but it's only $69 USD (the full version is $109.)

I'm sticking to the full version myself. But a simpler version may draw in the more budget-minded individuals.

I've bit my tongue long enough... this is dumb.  They already have arcade sticks for the switch and they aren't super expensive.  The docking feature is rather laughable and could be replicated with the kickstand on the switch.   If you back this you might get a product by the time the switch is defunct if you are lucky.

The goal is only $120,256.

I'm jealous. Wish I thought of it. I could be cranking out switch fighters as my side hustle.

Looks like they slapped some buttons and a joy on the cardboard arcade cabinet that came with the $10 toki switch game.

Here you go kids:

Those buttons aren't so great but with all the money you'll save you can buy better ones and put them in.

I've got a couple of official Capcom Arcade Fightstick Tournament Edition, one of them compatible with the Switch with an adapter. But it's not the same concept: in this case, you need to have a much bigger space, you need to set-it up (cables, extra-dock), the whole setup is cumbersome to say the least. Not just tidy, neat and plug-and-play solution.

I don't know why the negative comments, as in... it is not that expensive, compared to the price of any accessory for anything nowadays really. Besides that this is a one-off purchase anyway.

I shared it in case someone liked the idea, like I do and feel that their job is worth it. I tried to set something similar up with my current fight stick and it's not even close in terms of practicality.

You are paying $100 for a $50 joystick that has a slot in the front to slide your switch in.  It's dumb.... there's no screen there it's just the switch docked and considering third party docks have a tendency to fry switches it's just a bad idea all around.  Also the way the screen is positioned your hands are going to be in the way when you play... it just won't work like you think it will.  I don't know what's so cumbersome about plugging a usbC to usb adapter into the switch and then plugging the joystick into that.
