Mortal Kombat 1 Connector
(1/3) > >>
Susurrous:
I'm restoring a Mortal Kombat 1 arcade cabinet and I have these two connectors:

* the 14-pin one goes to the coin door, coin door lights, counter, etc
* the small two-pin one goes up to the speakers
I've tried to find out what they're called online and I think they're IDC .100" connectors.

I'm assuming these DON'T go to the PCB and instead connect to the JAMMA wires, right?

If so, I guess I need to find the locking header that fits them? Otherwise, could I just purchase some different quick release connectors?

Any advice on what they're called or where to purchase the other ends?

Titchgamer:
Not one I am familiar with but they could be IDC’s.

PL1 may know?

But if you look around the conector the maker and sometimes the model are usually on them.

But sometimes small and hard to see!!
Mike A:
I might have time to look into it after work, but a little independent research never hurt anyone.

You should start here:

https://www.arcade-museum.com/manuals-videogames/M/Mortal_Kombat_1_1640025101_July_1992.pdf

What you are looking for should be in there.
bperkins01:
Those are old style connectors that are not really used..  Look up Molex connectors (.156 spacing is very common)
PL1:
The large connector is definitely some type of insulation-displacement connector (IDC) -- you can see the blades in the center right photo above.

You can easily find the pitch by measuring the distance from the center of pin 1 to the center of pin 11 and dividing that distance by 10.
- 1" ==> 0.1" pitch
- 1.56" ==> 0.156" pitch

Beyond that generic advice, I'm not sure which manufacturer or series connectors those are.   :dunno
--------
Pages 39-40 of the manual Mike linked to shows the two connectors, but doesn't have part numbers.
- The 5 pin sound connector goes to a 5 pin connector.
- The 14 pin coin door connector goes to a 12 pin connector and a 2 pin connector. (5.9 VAC from the transformer)
