Help! Find a power socket in store
« on: June 04, 2020, 11:42:38 pm »
I got all my parts together to assemble my cabinet, even took the day off tomorrow, only to discover the power socket inlet (the kind with the switch and fuse) has a bad switch. I'd really like to work over the weekend but amazon can't get me one until Monday earliest. Anyone know where these are found in person? I have access to most of the normal stores, (central Minnesota, St cloud area) but not finding anything in the Home Depot or Menard websites. Ideas??? Thanks!

Something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NWO68JI/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_G7B2Eb5PM02EJ

Well if you want to pay 20 or 30 dollars for it they might have it at radio shack.

Ok meyer try to stick with me on this one I may jump around...

Make sure it is your rocker switch that is the culprit.  Take your full switch and look at the following stores if you are in the St Cloud area:

  • Home Depot 401 2nd St S, Waite Park, MN 56387  16 Amp Single-Pole Rocker Switch
  • Menards 251 10th Avenue S Waite Park, MN 56387  Gardner Bender® Red On-Off Spade Terminal and Lighted Appliance Rocker Switch
  • Border States Electric 2800 1 1/2 St S, St Cloud, MN 56301
  • Grainger 2450 Annapolis Ln N, Plymouth, MN 55441
  • Werner Electric 2900 1st St S, St Cloud, MN 56301
  • Viking Electric 625 1st St S, Waite Park, MN 56387
  • Graybar Electric Supply 1106 Sunridge Dr, St Cloud, MN 56301
  • Micro Center 3710 Highway 100 South, St Louis Park, MN 55416  NTE Electronics Illuminated Miniature Snap in Rocker Switch

The switches I listed may not fit the old inlet but at least you can get it wired up and working until you get your new inlet switch from Amazon which I would order today.  I would try Micro Center and Grainger first before the electrical supply stores.  We have Wyn Electric supply by where I live.  They are my go to electrical supply but they are comparable to the stores I listed.  Good luck.

And honestly if you are wiring it from a power strip like I think you are just save yourself the hassle and run an extension cord into the cab and wire it on Monday when the part comes from Amazon.

I'd just cut the hole out for it and run a cord through it while you wait for one from Amazon.
