Yesterday was the first major test of my new basement flood defense system.

We had a good sized thunderstorm move through here.

there were 80 mph winds, and torrential rain.

I lost power for more than twelve hours. It came back on about 5am.

I couldn't afford a backup generator so I had to hope the drainage system on its own was relieving hydrostatic pressure enough to prevent flooding.

My basement was bone dry when I left for work this morning.

If this storm would have hit last year I would have needed scuba gear down there.

Next year's budget includes a whole house generator.

Just for you jdbailey.

I am not finished yet. I am spending a lot of time on my Indy 500 project.

Here is my workbench so far. I still need to mount a monitor for displaying schematics and porn. It will mount right next to the surge strip.

That row of CRTs from a previous pic is behind the pegboard.

The wood shop is a mess. Lots of stuff is still packed up, I need to ceiling mount my industrial air cleaner, I need to put up a couple of runs of pegboard.

Yeah. When I first moved in I thought about tearing everything out and starting over.

It turns out I got over that notion pretty quickly.

I can certainly understand that. :) It will only bug you for a couple days usually. Then you don't even notice. Unless they hit you in the head. Then it would drive me crazy.

Get some zip ties and tidy up those wires.

More pegboard.  Floor to ceiling pegboard.

Workshop is looking good.

At least he isn't one of those people who run every single device in the house on wifi. (at least I hope most of that is just data)
I had a similar mess where my modem and switch are mounted to a floor joist.  It's still a mess, but it's all wrapped up in velcro straps and not hanging down anymore.

I took down a wall. I had to reroute a bunch of stuff. So it is rattier than it normally looks. Not to say that it isn't a spaghetti bowl.

When I see a "mess" like that I just think it's a space that's actually being used.  A clean workspace typically means an unused workspace.

Speakers are all installed.

My 300 watt keyboard amp is working as a subwoofer right now. I still need to buy a real sub or maybe 2 subs to fill that space.

It sounds pretty damn good right now.

I will post some pics tonight.

The little unibomber light is cute, But Omg, that shop is depressing, Think you got enough pegboard yet?, the floor seems to have water damaged cement and ceiling seems quite low for working on games (more pegboard perhaps?)...But my favorite, is the no pics of your 300 watt Walmart amp, after all that hype and the world doesn't even get a pic of your greatness...Now that is funny... :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

It isn't a Walmart amp. It is a keyboard amp. I will take a pic tonight and post it for you.

It is also temporary. I really need 2 subs to get the low end punch I need.
