Yesterday was the first major test of my new basement flood defense system. We had a good sized thunderstorm move through here. there were 80 mph winds, and torrential rain. I lost power for more than twelve hours. It came back on about 5am. I couldn't afford a backup generator so I had to hope the drainage system on its own was relieving hydrostatic pressure enough to prevent flooding. My basement was bone dry when I left for work this morning. If this storm would have hit last year I would have needed scuba gear down there. Next year's budget includes a whole house generator. |
