Initial D games on Demul
« on: June 02, 2020, 02:53:38 pm »
In Demul when I play Initial D games (Naomi Arcade) the wheel is too sensitive. One little move and the car flies into the wall. I tried to go in test mode but I couldnt' find out where to fix it (although it's possible I missed it). Does anyone know how to fix this?

thnx

Well I figured out you have to create a card and do a race and it asks if you want to continue you say no, then it ejects the card (this is how it saves the card to nvram) then you have to stop the game and restart it to save settings. Once you have a card you can change the wheel to stiff in the game. But, it's still way too loose even on the stiffing setting.

I fired up demul for the first time a few days ago and attempted to map my DD wheel to the X axis. Didn't have any luck. The mapping menu automatically assigns some other button to whatever function I try to re-map. That's certainly not a good first impression  and quite discouraging

Furthermore, looking at the menu and the way it's setup, I'm willing to bet the emulator doesn't support actual steering wheels, and thinks you're using a game controller with an analog stick. This would explain the weird sensitivity with the steering in the Initial D.

There is no indication anywhere that the emu acknowledges an actual wheel and will set the rotation properly. I could be wrong and perhaps someone like Boomslang or maybe MrThunderwing can chime in with their experiences, but *IF* I'm right, I wouldn't be particularly interested in using my wheel in Demul, without real steering wheel support.

lol I know. The UI remapping utility tries to *force* map some weird axis from my "G27" wheel, even though I'm not pressing anything, wtf

I'll give it another gander though.

I don't have any problems with pedals or brakes, just steering sensitivity.  And it's only an issue with the Initial Ds, I've played most of the rest of them and they work well and there's some pretty good racing games especially in Atomiswave like Maximum Speed, Faster than Speed, not a whole lot of Naomi but a few like the Club Karts are fun.  I even like using my wheel for non traditional racers like Waverunner I find it fun.

On most of the Demul arcade games accelerate is up on analog and brake is down so you just map your accel and brakes to those.

yeah it does same for me really

but eventually i got steering working but pedals were still wierd. I mean, yes we could hack our own inputs but its a bit of effort and I can't really be bothered lol

Demul should just fix it on their end really

for me steering left is JOY0_ANL0_KEY- and steering right is JOY0_ANL0_KEY+

UI doesn't even show the - and + parts as they are "off screen" but copy and paste has shown those

I don't know if it helps anyone but if you want to map steering wheel controls in Demul, just hold down the axis you want to use on your wheel/pedal before you press the corresponding mapping button. This will overwrite the stupid default axis that Demul wants to put in there.

You also have to have combined pedals or none of it will work.

Yes, the UI is garbage.

Thanks to Boomslang, I solved the wheel sensitivity.

But now that I'm on a new computer, I'm back to the card issue. I tried reinstalling Demul it doesn't help. When it gets to the card menu it says "unable to read the card currently inserted please remove the card" This is happening on Intial D 2 and 3. I tried clearing out scache and nvram (which were empty anyway when I reinstalled Demul) yet somehow, I still get this error. I went into test mode and initialized the card, but it didn't help either. The only solution I've found is to disable the card in test mode, then you can't save progress.

Oh yeah and I also read on some Initial D forum "just assign a button to button 6 in Demul, that will remove/reenter the card" Doesn't do anything with this error.

Maybe the best I can hope for is playing them without saving.

Thanks to Boomslang and his app I have them working properly. Finally have Initial D 1-8 and Zero working good with my steering wheel.
