I saw this in my feed and while the scratch built cockpit is impressive (especially considering they released the plans).  I don't know about using the a1up as a base though... seems kind of wasteful.

If your plan is to go the cheap and easy route, using an A1Up is probably a good bet. You don’t need to source any electronics and just need to build the cockpit part. I mean, “I” wouldn’t do it, but I will admit that it’s a nice use of the toy.

Finally some creativity with those things, Who would have thought starting over as a viable solution, But at face value that's a WIN!

I just wish a1up would cut out the middle man and sell just parts instead of the whole kit.  90% of the people buying these things aren't using them stock anyway.

Interesting that you people find some value in this.

I think its overkill. But then again, I never did understand
the appeal of cockpit games. There were ones for star trek,
sinistar, missile command and some others.

Maybe for Driving and Racing games it works, but i don't get
the appeal for other genres.

Oh, I think it’s goody as all get up, but at least it’s innovative and not simply making a toy play more games.

If my local classifieds are any indication, most people are buying them on clearance, assembling them, and selling them bone stock for MSRP or higher.

They do sell a lot of the parts in their store ( They tend to only add them after the warranties are expiring on various models so some of the parts are not listed or OOS )  - But with the Walmart clearance pricing it's cheaper to buy the whole cab than the parts ( ie. Side panels with art are $100 a pair - https://arcade1up.com/collections/side-panels ) - Lit marquees they want $80  - THe LCD screen with Bezel/Plexi and Game PCB is $170 - etc. ( Had the Star Wars Yokes but are OOS right now) So they are trying to make more just selling replacement parts when things break then they are selling the cabs ( since much of their customer base will not realize they can mod these and will just pay to buy repair parts direct from them when they eventually break ! )

Well I meant sell parts, not rob people blind.  :)

The Star Wars cabinet is probably the biggest single impact A1UP has had to the arcade community. If I understand correctly, they worked with the Alan-1 guys and was able to reduce the cost of one of their Yokes by $100, by increasing their purchase volumes. The Star Wars A1UP appears to be a viable Star Wars Yoke controller and the entire cabinet cost less than previous yokes. I have yet to get my hands on one though.

I expect we'll see A1UP PCB's for a while, and I don't think they are all that bad to build a machine around, if you wanted to use it for the PCB.

Totally. Lots of skinned machines, but they almost always come with proud beaming owners. These guys are great! Many of them are fairly new to all this, so there is a lot of excitement. The most recent herd discovery was playing 4 way games with an 8 way joystick. Also starting to hear some folks be more concerned with authenticity and I've seen more than 1 person start collecting and learning about full size machines.
