  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
I’m looking for something that is more Arcade than Sim style setup.

The closest thing I could find was over at monsterarcades.com, but I want something that is more Arcade like, I really want to be able to drop in coins.

I guess if I drop the coin requirement then the monsterarcades one fits the bill but I want to consider other recommendations first.

Building myself is not an option, I’m possibly looking for two to link, would love to hear what you recommend.

Find two actual arcade machines and convert them.  There aren't any good pre-built arcade racing cockpits out there.

What do you guys think of this from Monster Arcades, not sure where the PC would fit and unfortunately they can’t modify to add a coin door.

I would remove the cup holder because I would not want beverages near the game.

Looks generic and uninspired IMO. Do what Howard said and get a real sit-down cab and convert it. Preferably a used Virtua Racing or Daytona USA sitdown deluve cab. Much easier and cooler.  If I ever move and get enough space I'm getting either a VR or Indy 500 sitdown deluxe cab.

I suppose it's functional, but it sure is ugly.

They probably expect you to just put the PC beside the unit :) You could obviously Lose the cupholder and build a computer holder / coinbox and it would definitely be functional.
Question is what'ss the price coz I doubt it will be cheap and even in the UK we can still get deals on Real Sit down racing machines :) So if was me I would go with a real sit down cab.

I'm not sure why you really want a coin door.  I know this is blasphemy, but the best racers are the modern ones, not those in the arcade.  Most of the stuff prior to the 3d era doesn't hold up well other than a quick 5 minute playthrough or something.  The regular old pc racers are even better.  There are exceptions of course, but not many.

Don’t crush my dream, lol. I hear you, I’ve actually avoided playing any mame games on my PC for fear that I’ll be disappointed and it won’t live up to what I remember.

I actually checked some online sales in a few cities around me, and it’s a bad market for arcade cabinets where I am, linked VR racers are like 7K.

I could give up the coin door requirement, would you have anything to recommend that is not an arcade cabinet but would look great and function well for both old and new?

I’ve seen some of those rigs that have hydraulics, those look fun. But not sure if they are stupid expensive.

Personally I’m not a sim racer person, but I do love a good arcade racer, those newer racing games running on TeknoParrot look great and they are current as well.

Well if you aren't willing/able to build then an old sega racing cabinet is really your best option.  There isn't anything on the market for pc racing that doesn't lean heavily towards the sim side of the hobby.  Did you look at my build?  Yeah getting the details takes time, but as for the shell itself I churned that out in a weekend.  Couple of 2x4's and a couple sheets of plywood and I was off to the races.  I just eyeballed mine from pics, but the plans for the official version are for sale.

I do believe there is a hydraulic rig on amazon but I think that's a couple thousand.

As someone that has been on a retro kick lately, and have added dozens upon dozens of old sprite based arcade racers to my LaunchBox library, I can wholeheartedly attest to this. Despite the nostalgia I find myself always going back to the racers that came post Virtua Racing.....Daytona USA, Scud Race, Ridge Racer, Wangan Midnight, etc. Those are the golden years IMHO.

I mean don't get me wrong there are a few that stand out.  The sega super scalers, particularly the later ones, hold up pretty well.  I would just suggest you optimize your build for new stuff rather than old stuff.... in other words get a decent pc, use a lcd panel for a monitor, ect...

Well he asked for pre-built.

That will not be cheap unless you want a garbage pile cab.

And I can only imagine the cost of international shipping.

It certainly looks more arcade like though.

Eh that seat is entirely too close.  Before you mention that it's adjustable, I mean the bench that it sits on is too close, so even if you adjust it back you'll hit the bottoms of your legs on the bench.

Also what is it about people not angling the pedals properly?  Look on any sim rig and those pedals would be mounted to a board on a steep angle... to get it closer to real life.  Pc pedals aren't angled properly out of the box.  I've still got to build that part of my cab.
