Kortec KT-2914F - Which graphics card
« on: March 23, 2020, 11:36:19 am »
I'm reviving an old project. I have a brand new Kortec KT-2915F TriSync and an old ArcadeVGA 3000 Ulimarc card. I can't find drivers for the card so my journey now becomes which card should I buy, what drivers should I use, what is the easiest way to get my MAME collection running with games using their native resolutions and frequency rates?

Thanks

Scott

What OS are you using?
Have you checked with Andy at Ultimarc (or looked at his site) for drivers?  He is very helpful and answers requests for information quite quickly.

I'm using the newest version of that card with a used KT-2914F and it has been excellent so far.
It does take a little time to set up but I wouldn't give up just yet.

I sent Andy and email this morning. I think he'll recommend going to the Arcade VGA 5000 he currently sells.

I'm using Windows 10.

From my current research it may be more beneficial to purchase a Radeon 7000 series and use CRT Emudriver from Calamity.

I think you will be happier with crtemudriver and an AMD card. Its last restricting, and probably less expensive.  There is a slightly higher learning curve though.

What's the best AMD card to search for?

Check calamity's website for compatible graphics cards. It depends on your application. R9 series are amongst the most powerful, but wont fit all PC cases. Search for a passive cooled if fans noise is a problem. Search for half height if you have a SFF PC.

This can be absolutely correct, although it depends on how much you already know and how much time you have to spend on setting things up (and what you think that time is worth.)

I finally had great success with a Radeon HD 7670 4gb and Calamity's drivers (after I spent numerous hours with no luck at all with a Sapphire 5450 however) in one cabinet.

Setting up the arcade vga and my Kortek in another cabinet was under an hour.

YMMV

Thanks Bobby for the input. I'm placing my Arcade VGA order after I click post. I just want to get things up and running. I'm afraid if I spend any more time I'll just shelve this again.

You can handle it so don't lose faith.

Graphics card/driver genius and support from both Calamity and Andy are superb if you need help.
