iPac/How do you configure the xinput & dinput controls?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm having trouble with this & nothing comes up on searches.

It's an iPac 2 on my windows 10 arcade cab. I'm on the newest firmware (152f as I'm typing this) & installed the newest version of WinIpac.

I set things up in Keyboard mode 1, made a ipc file of the settings. I switch it to mode 4(DInput user set) WinIpac closes, I reopen it & it says "Gamepad user mode 4" at the top & DInput game pad at the bottom. I set things up where I want them & make another ipc file for that setup. I set the ipac to mode 5, WinIpac closes, I reopen & get a "Board is in xinput mode. Changing mode to keyboard" message at the bottom. I reopen & it's in keyboard mode 1 again, only my DInput buttons are set. I reload my keyboard.ipc file & everything's set right there again. Go back to mode 4, have"Gamepad user mode 4" at the top, Only my keyboard buttons are still set. What am I doing wrong here? & how to I configure XInput period?

 Just now messing around with this as well. I’ll let you know if I figure anything out.
