nexusmtz:
You'll have to provide more information about where your maximus arcade configuration came from, and how you're launching it. Like, are there any batch files involved that might be replacing the config? If I edit my default.ini, nothing automatically changes it back on me. I've been using that method for years to ensure that Maximus always starts with MAME selected instead of whatever the last system was.

In the mean time, as a workaround, just go into your mame\ctrlr directory and copy the existing xarcade.cfg to x-arcade.cfg so you don't get the error.

I bought the entire setup. When I turn it on it goes straight to Maximus Arcade. I have no idea how it's done. Probably a bat file somewhere?

nexusmtz:
Ok. I'll let someone else jump in for general windows startup analysis. Did the workaround work so you're not getting that error anymore?

hueffmea:
Ok, I did several searches and can't find x-arcade.cfg.
Do you mean ctrlr_X-Aracde.cfg?

nexusmtz:
You won't find x-arcade.cfg. That's the problem. The file included in recent MAME distributions is called xarcade.cfg, but Maximus is telling it to load x-arcade.cfg.

Go into C:\MAX 2.10\MAME\ctrlr , there should be a file in there called xarcade.cfg. copy that, paste it into the same folder, and rename the copy to x-arcade.cfg.

If you don't have the xarcade.cfg file, you must not be running the standard MAME distribution. You can get it from mame.net and extract the file from the download.
