Mame Cab ‘ala Joust’ Build
« on: February 10, 2020, 10:25:01 am »
Nearly complete project I have been working on since last Fall.
Basically, this is a Mame cab designed to look like Joust.  CP has two extra buttons per player, 8-way joysticks, trackball and a spinner.  Running Mame 0.215 on a PC fast enough to handle bgfx.  Still have a few details to finish, and overlays to customize for the 16:10 monitor.

Classy AF.

The way you dealt with the VESA mount is kind of out there, but that's a way to ensure alignment.

Honestly it was my own laziness not wanting to spend hours getting the monitor precisely positioned so it just touched the bezel; also didn’t want to cut the existing flat panel mount.  It works reasonably well.

This came out great.  Is that a spinner in the upper right corner of the CP?  Is that comfortable to use?

BAM. Out of nowhere an awesome cab appears.

My favourite cab shape. Looks awesome.  :applaud:

Thx. The spinner is up there so that I can add another row of buttons in the future.  The knob allows one or two fingers to control the dial.  I don’t play a lot of spinner games so it works nicely, though I agree the placement is not ideal.

Thx.  I spent a bit of time mulling over this cabinet design.  Other option was a Galaga cab... but my kids and I really like Joust!

That's a classy build and love how you're doing the monitor as well. A1!

Looks great!  I'm about to build a Joust scratch build so I'm interested in what you used for paint colors.

The side art is a vinyl from escapepodonline.  I purchased the cabinet pre-assembled.  It is plain black laminate.

Ah ok.  I only saw the main photo didn't notice there was a link to other pics with descriptions.  I couldn't tell it was vinyl from that photo it looks good.  I'll most likely use a stencil like I did with my Robotron cab.

What did they charge you for freight on an assembled cabinet?

I ended up picking it up as they are about two hours from me, but I think they wanted $180 to ship.
