Where should I start?

I stumbled across information about puppy arcade when I was looking for an OS to replace my Windows XP.   then I seen something about Groove Arcade Arch. I am eager to dig out my ancient artifact of a computer and try one, but I don't know where I would start. Right now my computer does not have an OS on it that will launch successfully.

Any and all suggestions are welcome.
