Maybe we don’t call you ‘C-Type’ anymore?

I think I’m ready to commit to this build now.
My goal is to mimic a Contra cab, vertical screen, two players. Will be looking for advice as I work through this one, slowly work through this one...
I have also been dabbling in RGB modding crt’s. Found a nice Toshiba 27a43 locally for $20, I really like the picture on these Toshibas, I have a 32 that old consoles look really nice on. (Also tried a 21” No-name brand, but wasn’t able to successfully rgb mod it).

Performing the RGB was not terribly difficult on this TV thanks to all the info on the shmups forum and the nice folks here and over there as well. I wired it to a vga plug that I savagely tore from an old lcd screen, I highly recommend this for PC Mame builds. So nice to not have any adapters just plug in with a cheap effective vga cable, we won’t discuss the time it takes to get crt-emudriver and groovymame all sorted... with a great picture results, in my opinion, I set out today to build a frame. It’s pretty solid and almost square! Lol
Tried rotating these images, but this is the way BYOC wants ‘em  :o no idea how to take good pictures of a crt in action, but it looks good irl

Got my GFX card in the mail the other day, Dell AMD 8490 1gig.. will start the PC build soon I'm sure.
Anyone have advice on where to find dimensions for a Konami Contra cab? want to keep it as close to original as possible.

Couldn't find plans on any of the sites I know about.

That's a 3D model though - might help?

That’s a huge help thank you, meyer980!
Just made this purchase today from a local guy via buy and sell .. coin door doesn’t really scream Contra but it’s kinda cool.. bunch of happ style buttons.
Anyone know anything about these Wico sticks? He had a bunch new in box, I grabbed one to try.

I think those Wico are well regarded, but I'm a bit new yet. I sure as heck would have grabbed a few for right price. That coin door is neat... Are the two silver bits housings for buttons?

No that’s where you drop in the quarter, different eh?
This guy wanted a bit steep price for the sticks unfortunately, but they do suit my theme if they perform well. Was thinking of using servo sticks, because of the vertical set up a four way would be very handy

Working on a concept for art, maybe I can find an artist help me realise this. Do you think the C-Type name is too much of a stretch, considering r-type is not a vertical shooter and would not play on this machine..

No opinions yet?  :'(
Looking at what this oversized monitor will do to the overall shape and asthetic... do I keep the reatios all around or do I simply stretch it vertically?

I would stretch it vertically.  Maybe take an inch or 2 off of the bottom so it doesn't get too out of proportion.

I'm not a fan of the art but that's just because I wouldn't want 6 ft. army men in my house.  There is definitely some cool Contra-related art out there if you Google so I don't think it is a bad idea for a theme.

Yeah. The name needs to be changed. Just go all in on Contra. That is a good name.

I am not a fan of the army men either. However, I don't have a better idea right now.

I didn’t realize the name was a mashup of Contra and R-Type. Eek!

Why not just full camo the sides and add your new name/logo?

You could figure out a way of making it scream Contra.  I was thinking of an idea using a vinyl sticker of the Stage 3 boss (NES Contra) that could go over that the Owl Eye coindoor, using the slots as its eyes:

or the Stage 3 Arcade boss (Garmakilma):

Purists might not want artwork on a coindoor, but I figured if you're struggling with getting this door to feel like it belongs on a Contra theme, something along these lines could help.

Yeah, C-Type has got to go.  Both games have nothing to do with each other, other than having a theme of fighting aliens. But that could be hundreds of arcade games...

Like others have said, go full-on Contra and nix the mash-up idea.  A Contra tribute cabinet would be pretty sweet.  You could give it a cool name that relates to the Contra Universe.
Off the top of my head:

- Red Falcon (Red Falcon is the terrorist organization Bill and Lance are fighting against)
- Contra Clash
- Contra Band  ( :lol )
- Contra Continuum
- Contra Attack
- Contra Gryzor
- C to shining C
- Mission: Contra

I like the name Red Falcon.  Could probably come up with some good artwork for that.

Oh wow, now I have plenty to think about lol.
Ok the name can go, watch this space for an update on the theme. The giant army men are a little erotic, my wife will adopt unrealistic expectations of men if those two are hanging around all day...

Went back to the local buy and sell guy and grabbed two more sticks today. Now I have 2 eight-way and a four-way Wico stick. They’re all new in box and have a pretty unique feel. Now I have to decide if I should have a third dedicated 4-way stick, might be a little ugly..
Question, are there any or many vertical games that use more than three buttons?

I'll answer the question early in the morning but after having coffee this time,  "NO" :) see the following from when I made a list previously, list is not exact though.
