Turn based rpgs are an excellent way to kill time on an exercise bike.  16 hours of pedaling later, I’ve finally defeated Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.

This is a fantastic idea. I only watch shows (Jack Ryan Season 2 right now). What's some good ones to play? I didn't like any of the FF after III.

Right now, I'm working on Chrono Trigger.  My SNES took a dump in the 90s so I missed a lot of the games on it.  Takes more interaction than Mystic Quest but still doable while biking.  I'd be pounding the A button with one hand, texting with the other, and pedaling during some portions of Mystic Quest.  Not gonna happen with this one.

I planned to work out the details (in the workshop) of installing a linear actuator on my TV antenna to adjust for seasonal atmospheric changes.  The weather was nice enough to go up on the roof and complete the project. Chuffed to get this done in February instead of waiting until summer.

Been a long time since playing with an actuator.  It was fun.

Finally got my wonky copy of Dragon Warrior working, several pins were very worn.  This is the copy I played as a kid so it was sentimental.

Found a YouTube video where a guy repaired an edge connector on an arcade board by melting solder on the pin and the wiping it off with his bare finger. Yeah, don't do that. I feel like I was trolled.

Anyway, I did his solder wipe (with rag) and got it from a red or white screen to booting kinda sorta. So then I took a sharp pocket knife and scraped each pin from top to bottom. Several times, trying to get them smooth and uniform.

Then some alcohol wipes.

Now, with a firm insertion, it's working fine on my top loader and 2 clones.

Is that a Nintendo Power freebie?  I remember getting it and I played the crap out of it.  Then I was like "Yup I never have to play another straight rpg again."

Eh I don't think it's a bad purchase either way.  I enjoyed it, I just realized later that other rpgs were essentially the same damn game and I was done with level grinding for life.

The random battles don't bother me so much now like they did when I was a kid.  Kind of soothing in a weird way, I guess.  Dragon Warrior has some weird clunk in the interface - it's like going back to the really old point and click adventures and having to specific on the correct verb rather than just clicking the action button.

Picked up some new fun at an auction. CRTs with vacuum tubes, should be fun. Top one is a TV, record player, radio combo. I was able to get snow on it. Bottom one I am getting a Halo.

Wow those things are cool looking.  Really good condition too (besides non-working CRTs)

Yeah, it was maintained by a tv/film studio for years as art, so I jumped on it. $120 for both. Hopefully I can get them going. I plan to do my entire living room in a mid-century motif.

If they are easy enough to fix, I might throw some vintage tv on a loop that plays through a pi or something, so you get appropriate era television when you turn it on.

I'm jealous over that vintage haul.  Around here you'll see one of those sets beat to hell with a hole in the side and all the electronics gone with a $300 price tag on it.  At $120 I'd take the things and run before they changed their mind.

We get that ---That which is odiferous and causeth plants to grow--- around here also.  People think because its the only one they know of for 25 miles it must be the last one on Earth.

Or we get the "I checked eBay" line.  Yeah.  They are on eBay mother scratcher but theirs has been refurbished and is in working condition and worth the $300.  Yours has a family of raccoons living in it....

Ok, that Lock N Chase I picked up in CA had some sprite issues. The game works and all, but a few items, like the car that drops Lupin off, was all scrambled. I took out the PCB and I saw an EPROM that looked like this...

Crazy, right?

I ordered a new set of blank EPROMs from ArcadePartsandRepair.com and burned a replacement. Popped it in, fired it up, and...

I replaced another one next to it that wasn’t as bad but still had a hole...

So I just need to do some touch up painting, but this one is ZapCon-ready.

Yes. I have an industrial eraser to wipe them and a burner to write them.

They are usually covered with a sticker or something to protect them, but none of these have a sticker over the window (although they do have factory stickers identifying them.)

I feel sorry for the guy that lost this little beauty but I found a working 20v Dewalt drill in the middle of the road on the way to work.  It looks like most of the damage is superficial and was sustained during the fall onto the road.

Both working great, Only problem being that the famicom shows in B&W on my CRT tv’s so can only really play that one on the little flat screen I have dug out of the loft.

Found out a sort of remake of The Ninja Warriors exists on SNES and I think it's literally impossible without cheating. There's a program called Game Genie Guy that will patch ROMs and even with infinite health I had to consult a faq to figure out the final boss.

Anyway, one more down....

LOL ultimate score PBJ!

I picked up a mister setup the other day, I have been watching the project for quite some time and decided now is the time to get in on it.

Been having some fun with it, Especially getting to plsy some of the stuff that I normally dont/cant such as Amiga and ST games.

I finally picked up a Gyruss PCB. Its new home will be my Time Pilot cab. Gyruss is stereo so I will probably mount a second speaker on top of the cab. Maybe I will incorporate it into some kind of topper. I got a Kicker PCB with no sound as part of the deal.
I have a soft spot for Kicker. I played the crap out of it in Vegas when I was a kid. The Circus Circus arcade was awesome.

Gyruss was always (still is) a favorite.

Never did get to play Kicker though (had to even look up what it was in fact.)
Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools! I can fix it.

Started cleaning out my old room over at Grandma's.  Found some treasure.  I used to hide stuff when I was a kid... who knows what I'll find.

Jennifer gets a call, "Hey you need some arcade monitors?"...Jennifer says "Why yes please, How many?"...Dude on the phone says..."I don't know, a trailer full, and a wall"...I say a wall?..."well yes a wall full, and some still new in a boxes"...I am on my way friend, I say"😁...Apparently there are 15 on the trailer, little nervous about this wall thing...Wish Princess luck boys.

I know right...The size and weight of those cannot be put into words (Except nasty) one of them is just strait up massive (bottom right) that one alone was like like trying to pick up a small car. Stacking those bricks, kinda sucked. The stuff on top are juke parts, amps mostly...Moral of the story, A "wall" of arcade monitors apparently means many and big.

I'm drooling but at the same time my back hurts just looking at those things.  Those big ones are pretty sweet though... it'd be great for a MK cab or a cps2 era pedestal.

Lots of options, Design of a custom cab would have to be quite substantial by design...Secretly Jenn has been working on plans for a Blazing Angles cockpit as my next build, Thinking aluminum aircraft style construction, and a giant Lcd not a crt however,...These may be suited more for drivers, or something (Mk would be pretty cool) 8)

Now that’s a haul. But how many of those tubes are burn-free? Do you know their working status? Man, this would take a long time to test all of them. I hope you got a good rejuvenator with a solid test setting. I’d service your rejuvenator before taking on the testing task. Those things are easily serviceable, not much complex circuitry in them.

Thanks guys...Yes I have never had a NIB before it takes some getting used to, The rest of them are used, but no visible burn, a couple of the smaller ones are missing yokes, but I do have the equipment for dealing with convergence.

What do you guys think about this monitor?

https://www.newegg.com/lg-24bk430h-b-23-8-full-hd/p/0JC-000D-00610?sdtid=14052137&Description=24+inch+ips+monitor&cm_re=24_inch_ips_monitor-_-0JC-000D-00610-_-Product&nm_mc=AFC-RAN-COM&cm_mmc=AFC-RAN-COM&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_source=afc-Slickdeals+LLC&AFFID=208164&AFFNAME=Slickdeals+LLC&ACRID=1&ASUBID=0f1e9274973911eaabc2aef906d31fd80INT&ASID=https%3A%2F%2Fslickdeals.net%2Ff%2F14052137-24-lg-24bk430h-b-1920x1080-ips-led-monitor-w-freesync-119-99%3Fsrc%3Dcatpagev2&ranMID=44583&ranEAID=208164&ranSiteID=lw9MynSeamY-RSLctTKeIE0iYVKOFSG9oA

It's a good price, but should I be going more towards a 4k screen?  I haven't even started looking yet so I don't know the pricing at all.  I'm think around $200-250 is my limit unless a really spectacular monitor presents itself or something.
I have no idea on American pricing but compared to what we would pay seems a tad high.

Regarding the actual TV though I always get LG, Never had a single problem with any of the 3 I have and the one is around 15-20 years old.

Had an issue with my Crazy Kong board - the issue was me!

I bought a High Score Saves/Freeplay Kit, but it required me to remove the z80. No problem, mine was soldered it, but I can do it! I’ve removed lots of chips. I was careful with using my Hakko to not burn or lift any traces on the bottom. Got it desoldered, looked clean from the bottom, so I gently popped up the chip....

... and lifted some traces on the top.

Not to worry, not my first rodeo. I have super thin Kynar wire and fixed everything. Then I soldered in the socket, plugged in the kit...

Scrambled boot. Fsck.

I tried other z80s. Same thing. I used my logic probe. It was getting a signal and working, so it had to be trace related. I held it up to my worklight and looked very carefully...

A pin on the socket never made it in the hole!

I popped out that pin and soldered in a new one. Plugged it in and....

Boom! We good! HSS kit is in and working!

Nothing is more satisfying than fixing a dead PCB (especially when you killed it!).

I have the same problem... no matter how careful I am I usually lift a trace when I'm desoldering something old.  I think I need to get a proper pump.

Yeah, the Hakko has been great for preventing lifts, but they still happen. If I weren’t trying to save the chip, I could have just cut it out, put in the socket and a new CPU which would have made life easier. I’ll probably do that next time, if possible.

Still, it just took time and a little patience, and it worked out in the end.

Omg, you don't see that every day, That smaller one may be better served on the bench, converted to a vector...There are actually a lot of advancements in this area over on that hack site, in rewinding the yokes.(Its actually surprisingly easy, and works)

They said I was crazy when I kept all those old ceiling fan parts but I proved them wrong when one of the ceiling fans in the house broke the other day and today I casually walked in my shed, pulled out the needed part and put it in place.  See I'm not a hoarder.... keeping that big box of fan parts for 15 years totally paid off.

Nah my stuff is organized.  I keep the dead cats next to the jars of my own urine.  I mean they might come in handy if I ever take up drugs.... I'll need pee.

Let me tell you from experience that keeping your dead cats, drugs, and urine on the same shelf is a great time saver.  I tried putting my fan and arcade parts on the same shelf but it just got too cluttered.

Just figured out that's the same guy who did "game over" sampling pacman noises.  I think I used the instrumental version in a front end intro vid before I realized that front end intro vids get old around the 3rd play.

Well, after 5 years in a Houston garage, my component -> hdmi converter died.

You can get $26 hdmi adapters for original Xbox shipped overnight from Amazon.

Image actually improved some, and I was happy before.

Which one did you get?  I might be in the market for something like that.

Been working on the house like crazy the past couple weeks.  Fixed the kitchen cabinets and sealed up all the holes for pests to get in, spackled any dents or holes in the ceilings, put a new floor in a closet that needed one and put an outlet in a room that didn't have any (old house).  I've got one more outlet to put in then it's just making everything pretty with some paint and TLC.

This one.  Thus far very pleased with it, put an hour or so on it tonight.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0829V2HHF

Looks very suspiciously like the Pound cable.

While you’re fixing up that house, hose it down with bifen if you don’t have cats.  I had an ant invasion that disappeared over night.  Sprayed it into holes and then spackled over them.

Thanks... once I get everything set up I think I'm going to upgrade anything that uses component.  Newer tvs don't have them anymore.

Eh ants weren't the problem.... While I've been getting everything ready nobody has been living in the house for about three months.  During that time a couple of mice got in and made a mess.  I took care of them but I'm trying to seal things up to make it unlikely to have any more.

I still can't believe I found this shroud on eBay.

Just one small cigarette burn as seen below.

If anyone knows or has cleaned one in the past let me know.  I don't want to mess up the plastic.  My thought is just warm, soapy water.

Who were those ---uvulas--- in the arcades anyway?  I can kind of see it on a control panel as smokers are slobs that unknowingly drop globs of hot ash everywhere but to get it on the bezel.... they'd have to be active ---uvulas--- intentionally putting their cigs out on what is clearly a piece of plastic.

Wait, what.  Go on.  Spare no detail.  Type slowly.

There's a guy on KLOV who created Amplifone clone PCB's and sold them for a brief time.  The project was taken over by another member and they are currently for sale.  You get an Amplifone Deflection board (chassis), and a High Voltage power supply (like a flyback).  All you need to supply is a 19"-25" color CRT (curved old school).  The last step is rewinding the Yoke (some folks will do it for a fee).

Links:
Amplifone clones:  https://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=439426&highlight=vector    (May need a KLOV account to access).
Rewinding Yoke video:

In addition effort has been to create a Zector ZVG replacement (they run on DOS and aren't made anymore).  The same guy who created the above has been working on this for some time.  It is a vector generator that will allow you to output MAME video signals via USB to a specially designed PCB that creates the vector lines.  The best place to get information and updates is on the Facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/Vectrex.XY.and.Vector.monitors.The.Technical.Side/. (need to request to join the group)

Here's a couple of video's to get you going:

So much more I could write, but maybe better to ask what questions I could answer?

Klov used to be the place people would run off and snicker when they thought they were ripping you off on RGVAC, so it left a bad taste in my mouth 20 years ago.

Somewhere, probably in a landfill, is an RGVAC T-shirt I owned.  One of the most cringe things I ever purchased but that was back in the days before amazon was delivering PCBs and joysticks in 2 hours and anything remotely arcade related was cool.

Yeah we've got some ---uvulas--- around here too (looks in mirror) but they at least have the decency to be upfront about it.  KLOV always struck me as a place where people would stab you in the back and then complain about how you got your blood all over their brand new knife.  There's good people over there too though I suppose, I just like hanging out with you idgits better.   :burgerking:

Thanks Arroyo.  I had them professionally cut on a CNC machine.  I knew I wouldn't have the time or the patience to cut out the cabinet.  As far as the software goes I want to place the following Star Wars arcade games on it:

  • Star Wars (1983)
  • Return of the Jedi (1984)
  • Empire Strikes Back (1985)
  • Arcade (1993)
  • Trilogy Arcade (1998)

I have a feeling though I will only play Star Wars (1983) and Trilogy Arcade (1998) in the end.  So I feel like a vector monitor wouldn't be the way to go.  I do have an old CRT computer monitor I have had since 1999 and if it still works I want to decase it for this machine.

It is incredibly easy to wind those yokes, (fingers get sore after awhile) Jenn probibally has done a hundred of them already, 100 turns of 24ga. Magnet wire, I do wonder where the math comes from however, it seems rather generic, and currently running some tests with a induction meter,, (and comparing some notes with Radiation Laboratory...however it does work, and those boards are the real deal...Not only Ampliphone clones but upgraded to drive larger tubes, With a smaller footprint...Yes that is worthy of some chuff😁

Nobody I guess, Been experimenting with more and less turns with different ga. wire...And ultimately hope to make a 27" Tempest...Although right now like I say experimenting, and working on a 25" Red Baron...and just making tubes.

Although whats not so chuffy...Is the fact a larger tube, requires a larger cab, and in the Red Baron project (Since the only made 500 cockpits anyway) I am seriously considering a full composite, Using modified Star Wars cab plans.

The grunge work is being done now, the not so fun stuff like photoshoping the marquee (obviously that and control panel are going to be larger too, But I will do a thread on the build for you guys...I dont have 100 yokes on the shelf Mike, I am guessing I did 100 or so of them over the course of the experiments, some were failed attempts...If you guys try it, 100 turns of 24 ga. Enameled magnet wire seems to be about right, but be really careful with those purity rings, they are really easy to break, (and that yoke winds up in the trash)...but you can then use a ampliphone/HV...Or that repro board.

I wanted to say thanks to Saint for providing us with such a great outlet for learning more about those games of my youth. I had a spare PC lying around that summer and wanted to do something with it. I remembered futzing around with MAME earlier in the decade, and so I looked around. I found Mike Trellio’s arcadecab.com website, which led me to here... which led me to a whole new world of new skills, an understanding of obsolete electronics, and all you great friends. Here’s to the next 10 years!

Finally after 4 Years of delays and pratting about!!  Tomorrow I will finally find out what our illustrious leader has planned for the Infrastructure team.
I'm fairly sure it will be an attempt at a wage reduction whilst getting us to do the same job we have already been doing for what is a government wide agreed wage :)
I'm so looking forward to it,  Shame we have to do it over Teams so he gets out of having to look any of us directly in the eye :) I bet he doesn't even turn on his camera for it :)

Well the Chuffiness is over again.  No voluntary redundancies,  But we did get to see the new structure,  2 full time positions for 4 of us to fight over and 1 1yr fixed contract for telephony engineer (May as well just ring fence that for the telephony guy)  Didn't have the new Job Descriptions available yet though so showing us the new structure was pointless :)  Basically spent 40 minutes Listening to one of the worst sales pitches I've ever heard  :laugh2: Probably not helped by the fact that he was trying to sell us something that we have watched being built and that we are not impressed with  >:D >:D At the end of the 40 minutes he asked if anyone had any questions or comments,  after the most awkward minute of silence I finally put my Hand up in teams and said No questions, Just a comment.   If this was Dragons Den and I'm a Dragon then I see nothing there for me so I'm Out. This was followed by another minute of awkward silence before the meeting was ended.  JD's may be available to view tomorrow but not holding my breath :) Hey ho, time to go hawk myself back out to the private sector, enough of this public service  :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Long story short:

A water line broke off in our bathroom vanities while we were on vacation.

This proceeded to pour water everywhere which reached our basement, master bath and master bedroom destroying much of the stuff we had stored where the block wall is wet in the center of the picture.

The only reason I'm posting this in the chuff thread is because if you look in the far right corner of the below picture you can see where I had my CNC'd Star Wars cab still in pieces stuck in a corner.  The water stopped just shy of where the mattress is sitting in front of the cab.  If the water would have traveled 2 more feet I would have lost $600.00 worth of a new cab that wasnt even built yet.

Wow! I have never seen a flexible connector break like that before. I know some people turn their water off when going on vacation because of things like this. I have in the past and this may make me do that every time now. I hate turning it back on though. Then you usually have to clean all the aerators (where I live at least).

You know, it almost makes you wish they'd put some kind of automatic cut off on the line. I mean, say 2-3 hours of full tilt water running and you have to go hit a reset button. How hard could this be? We've all got horror stories like this.

I think we all need to invest in those little frog things that email you if they detect moisture.  Always thought they were dumb but since the nearby mine closed down we've had all kinds of breaks and leaks.... I guess it's the increase in available pressure that nobody at the water company thought to adjust for.

I'm replacing my water heater. This link came in one of the quotes: https://meetflo.com/product/smart-water-shutoff

Silly looking, yes. But that's exactly how I knew my water heater was starting to leak. Thanks LeakFrog! (mine isn't wifi, but it was irritating enough to hear)

I knew the hot water heater was leaking because my pilot light kept going out.  Now I have 2 dead hot water heaters laying across the rafters because they’re too big to fit through the attic entrance.  Also, my hot water heater is in the attic.  Some day one of them is all gonna go Donnie Darko on me in bed and you’ll be released from the time loop.

I think I am going to start doing this.  Every time I have had a 'home disaster' its been water related.

The exact same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago.... water line in the kitchen just snapped.  Now luckily I was home at the time but wtf man?  How does a stainless steel line just break like that in the summer time?

Pure ---smurfy--- luck brother.   :lol

Sorry jennifer.  I was just posting my chuffiness over the fact my new Star Wars cab was not hurt in the chaos.

I had a rubber washer go bad on a toilet tank this year.  Came home to an inch of water in my bathroom and hallway.  It sucked.

Damn pbj.  Sounds like you and I share the same ---smurfy--- luck.

Does getting a Global VR Desert Gunner cabinet for free count in the realm of chuffiness?

Damn thing is obnoxiously (top)heavy.

Of course it turns out that that computer (?) that ran this beast is missing and some termites have had their way with some of the cabinet and moved on...

But the Rick Moranis looking control hood appears to be intact- and the monitor powers up anyway-

Anyone know where I can find the stuff to build a functional brain for this thing?

Apart from San Jose that is.

For $1200.......
Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools! I can fix it.

Installed the Funnyplaying Retro Pixel in my old gameboy. Looks very nice with a slightly bigger screen and new bezel.

Pics attached showing a couple of color palettes and pixel mode off and on.

Went to bootsale this morning, some guy selling off all his old mans steering wheels and games etc  He really didn't have a clue he didn't.  So I Got a Thrustmaster TMX for Xbox one/PC and a Thrustmaster 488GTB for PS4/PC  paid £15 for the pair and he threw in an Xbox one Turtle Beach headset.  Unfortunately I saw him 2 minutes too late as somebody already had their hands on the t3pa pedal set along with the  T300 Wheel for £20  :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

I patched the wall in the powder room today and installed the old towel ring hanging thing.  Drilled out the new holes and installed the hardware myself.  Took at least 20 minutes but came out great.  My kids will eventually rip it down again but this should give me a few months/years at least.  This is the 4th time I've done this and I was out of space in the drywall behind the mounting plate for new holes so I had to patch it.  For some reason, I'm quite pleased with being able to cross this off of the to do list LOL.

Next time use an oscilating tool to cut out a surrounding rectangle with the sides centered on the adjacent wall studs, then install a 2×6 behind where the towel rack will be using pocket screws.  New drywall will attach to wall studs and 2x6.  Towel ring screws will go into the 2x6.  Then you'll only have to replace the towel ring when they break it....but no drywall work.

This is a great idea.  I’m actually close to the stud on one side so if (when) it breaks again I’ll add the plywood backer.  House maintenance never ends!

If the towel ring keeps coming down then just get one that hangs over the door. Or one that hangs on the vanity door. They also make ones that mount on the door hinge.

Eventually I want to redo this bathroom.  It was like this when we moved in and get this - the painter went around the mounting plate so if I take off the ring I would have to repaint the entire room!  There is no vanity.  Just one of those sinks with no cabinets underneath and a toilet.  It is very tiny.  Barely room to sit on the toilet and you can wash your hands while sitting there.

At some point in the very near future we are going to redo the kitchen and I’m going to make the powder room part of it... since it’s actually in the kitchen too.  I think it used to be a pantry that a previous owner converted.  Most houses on my street do not even have first floor bathrooms unless they have been renovated.

The drywall is your real problem.  I was raised in houses with wooden paneling.  You can beat that stuff with a hammer and it doesn't budge (I tried.)  I'm just saying... it's ugly but it's sturdy.

All I know is I have to use three different methods to talk to everyone on this forum.  Everybody better make the ---fudgesicle--- up so I don't have to multi-task so much.

This year sucks so I'm chuffed about it being almost over.  Less than a month folks.  Everybody better put Little Orphan Annie on a loop until then.

Sadly I dont think the start of 2021 is going to be much better :(
We have heard rumours that we will be going back into total lockdown from 4th Jan if not sooner.

Its been a undeniably ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- year but if its taught me anything its to appreciate the little things and make the most of it.

I am normally miserable as hell this time of year (seasonal depressive) but even I am feeling semi festive.

I’ve had similar problems with a similar cable for original Xbox.  Psyclone?  Something like that.  It’s torn up a splitter and another time the cable snapped at the connector when I tugged on it.  I was able to snip off a couple inches and repair it, but damn.  Always twist those connectors when unplugging them and don’t yank on the wire.  The wire was surprisingly thin when I cut back all the insulation and the epoxy inside the connector housing.

It is stupid how tight some of them are built.

Noalox helps make it not so ridiculous to remove them but go easy with it.

It's great stuff, but I have to use that spooge nearly everyday for work and it gets everywhere if you aren't careful with it.

Not sure if we’re allowed to be happy anymore but I did cheat my way through a couple of arcade games today.

First, I present Metal Slug.  I bought some ---smurfy--- bootleg MVS cart 20 years ago before I knew those were a thing, it locked up on level 2, my friend that came over to beat it back then has since passed away, and I’ve never touched it since.

And there we go.

Next I present Thunder Fox, a weird mash up of Ninja Warriors, Shinobi, and a few others.

Game ends with just two shirtless bros drinking coffee…thinking about hard times…

Level 4 boss is much harder than the final boss.

Ooof.  More "Kiddy Casino" than arcade.  But I guess to be fair, they do call it an amusement center.

This is the sad state of what 'arcades' in the UK look like nowadays, a ton of redemption type machines and maybe 2 or 3 actual arcade machines.

About the same here but now we’ve got these “barcades” everywhere where you pay $10-20 to get in and it’s free play and overpriced beers.  Houston has a barcade with 200 games and it ran laps around our annual $45/day annual arcade show.  I would have never predicted the business model would work.

Barcades are starting to become more of a thing over here as well, the few I've seen are usually free entry, but you pay for the cabs as normal (some of which you can tell are not especially well optimised MAME cabinets). There's one called Four Quarters, where you exchange your hard earned pounds sterling for 25 cent pieces to play the games with. There was a pretty good one in the city centre, part of a chain called Kong's, that sadly went bust over Covid times and subsequently shutdown. There's a new one on the horizon though, which I think's going to be opening around June time, that's part of a pre-existing chain. If they get a few classic Sega arcade racers and lightgun games in there, I'll definitely pay them a visit for an overpriced drink or two.

Updated: Turn's out Kong's isn't shutdown after all, must've just been a temporary thing. One of my mate's is down at one in the fairly closeby city of Cardiff and he's just sent me a photo of one of their new additions (sadly not working though).
