New Trackball Design for easier installation

Ropi Jo:

Yes, I'm mid-build on this as Scott mentioned.

Number 1 son has re-printed the trackball using small bearings on 5mm shafts and the ball runs so sweet.

We've collected about 20 optical trackballs to R&D. And, as the build is based on 2 1/4" pool balls (and we bought a complete set from ebay) we've got plenty of options to see if we can find a winning combination.

Playing with the arcade build is a time filler only as I'm getting ready for a house move but I hope to have some updates soon.

Just like others have said, does it come in black?  This is perfect for those cluttered ultracade control panels because it is super compact!!!

Justin:

Im ready to buy one!   What is the depth clearance required under the panel ?

While this design is kinda cool...  Id personally Love to see a  Force Feedback Trackball,  for use in a Modified Marble Madness Build.

According to Mark Cerney, the developer of Marble Madness... he had intended the Trackballs to have force feedback.
Marks original design was to have four Rollers: Two of the rollers being driven by motors, and Two were the Optical Sensors.

However, it was revealed that you cant get a trackball to move properly, on 4 rollers.

 That said...

Why not integrate the Optical Sensor AND the FFB motor, on the same Roller?
(personally, I cant figure out why they didnt think of it.. other than possibly the added costs of machining completely new parts)

Maybe 10yard could add the FFB code, for the game.
