x68000 emuCRT
« on: January 12, 2020, 06:24:44 am »
Hi,

I'm trying to setup a x68000 machine on TV CRT 15khz and i have a multiple problems with resolutions... i know x68000 have diferent modes 768x512, 512x256...

My steps for the moment: in retroarch px68k switchres not seems working at all (at least for me it's dificult to config) ; in groovymame it's fine but emulation on mame isn't so good. Another emulators on PC, Winx68k etc. doesn't have suport for CRT resolutions and i don't find Calamity patch for winx68k high speed for testing

Any suggestions?

Thx!

MAME's X68 emulation is far from perfect, but most 15-kHz/low-res games run just fine, though? They fixed Nemesis '90 Kai recently, even.

The issue with the other emulators, other than 15-kHz compatibility, is that input lag gets pretty bad, so if you're interested in action games (which I guess you are), they're not a good option. You still can get WIN X68k HS patch here, anyway:

(Internet Archive till we can get a new host, I'm afraid.)

Thx very much!

I tested several games and i prefer Groovymame, i notice more responsive controls and better experience overall than Win x68k...

Some games are not working in MAME (for example Zugya) but Nemesis90Kai it's working fine since 0.215 version. I try to reduce my favorite list on working games.

Hi all,

I do more X68K tests in GM and i don't understand ChoRenSha switchres. I see this in log after boot(768x512):

SwitchRes: [x68000] (1) horizontal (512x257@73.943649)->(2560x257@56.859207)

I think this game is 256x256@56, WinX68k seems work at this resolution. It's possible to change GM internal resolution?

My command line:
mame64 x68000 chorensa

(*) I need delete nvram file before tests (i don't know why) for booting up x68k after update groovymame, anyone knows about this file?

Your best option is probably to use retroarch. It has an x68000 core and runs well on a CRT.

Hi!

Finally i configured 99% gamelist with WinX68K High Speed (Calamity patched version :notworthy:) it's the most compatible and switchres works perfect.

Only few games i used px68k libretro core (Dive On for example) because switchres doesn't seem to work on retroarch with this core. Another one, for example Action Shoot runs better on groovymame.

After all, with accurate scripting, WinX68K give me all funcionality: load disks, load hdf/hds (i convert more than 2 disk games to harddisk, for example Aquales), auto fullscreen, etc.

Comment switchres it's working fine with Cho Ren Sha x68k, in config menu inside the game it's possible to change screen mode to 15khz.

I notice more responsive controls on Groovymame than WinX68K High Speed for this game, maybe less input lag?  :dunno

GM definitely suffers way less from input latency than WIN X68k. Can't manage to run Chourensha 68000 these days with GM, though (v 0.217).

I'm using the latest version of GroovyMame and Cho Ren Sha works fine. With "mame64.exe x68000 -flop1 %1" and previously deleting nvram (just in case).

I love this game and its music   ;D
