I found the premise of this movie morally abhorrent.

Was this movie just created for the sole purpose of making memes?

The premise that a kid in a Hitler youth camp realises things aren't quite the way they are telling him it is?

70 million people died in that war.  I can do without wacky Hitler.

I thought it was kind of average.

I think it was suffering a bit of a identity crisis between being a comedy and a sort of factual realisation.

Cant think how better to put it this early in the morning.

So no Mel Brooks for you then?

The film didn't really work for me either.

It actually felt like two entirely different films that had been spliced together. And whilst each film could have worked in isolation, they didn't really gel together very well.

That's not to say you can't mix comedy and serious drama. But, for me at least, the comedy elements needed to have been a lot darker and understated to have worked. Parts of this film are genuinely quite harrowing, and you can't really say that about The Producers.

In terms of talking about a darker, more serious movie that ridiculed Hitler, To Be or not to Be would be a better Mel Brooks example than the Producers.

Just watched it this weekend and loved it, definitely plan to buy it soon. I've seen almost everything Taika Waititi has made and he has yet to let me down.

Glad you liked it - wifey wants to see this over the weekend.  I don't know anything about it.

I absolutely loved this movie.  Reminded me of a Wes Anderson film.

It is VERY Wes Anderson, which is fine because I'm a fan of his work as well.
