OK, that looks ridiculous with four joysticks on the panel. I know why they did it, but it would look at least decent if it was just a single joystick like the game should be.

They've been doing multigame cabinets for awhile now.

Not that big of an issue. If someone wanted to, they could just remove the other joysticks,
if they only wanted to play burgertime.

Is Bad Dudes a vertical display game?

Have to agree - It made sense when the cab was going to be a Karate Champ Cab (though then the buttons for Burgertime, Caveman Ninja and Bad Dudes looked out of place ) -

As much as I dislike these toys, they could have made a very nice looking Burgertime cab, but they had to go and Flynn’s Arcade it up. This could be the first A1Up that was also Crapmame worthy.

Sad part is it will be a website exclusive so no Walmart Clearance price deals on it after a couple months ( For a $75- $125 clearance price it would make a decent starting point to make a dedicated Burgertime only cab ! )

Seriously, it’s probably the first time I ever looked at one of these and thought they almost got it right, but that control panel shows a total lack of common sense.

Did you not like the Star Wars cabinet? That one is good. I really like the profile and I like the tilted screen.

I would absolutely have to put a single joystick on it. They should've just stuck with classic games on this one. It's like a steering wheel on a Galaga cabinet. This cabinet is a miss for me. I can't imagine anyone could walk up and know what controls to use, which is a big deal to me.

This was one of the first titles they announced over a year ago.

They're all licensed from Data East, there's nothing random about it.

The reason it was Karate Champ first, is because it was the CEO's favorite game,
people complained that Burgertime was better known, so they switched.

There are a ton of Data East mini arcade games, plug and plays, and other titles out there,
not surprising at all.

Random in the sense that they ran out of Data East games that bundled together well. Button placement seems bad for everything that isn't Karate Champ. I don't understand how you're supposed to be able to play Caveman Ninja and Bad Dudes on that monitor at all.

It's the first time they've bundled stuff without much rhyme or reason as to how they fit together as games.

i disagree. the rampage cabinet has been the worst of all.

trying to play defender on it, or joust is futile.

Well what kills me is most of those dataeast games were in a generic dataeast cabinet, like or similar to the ones used by Robocop and Bad dudes.  Mind you burgertime is a cool cab, but that vertical monitor means most of the games on there are going to be shrunk down.  It's also a fact that nobody but wierdos like me actually like karate champ..... so they ruined the layout for a game nobody will play.

If we're taking votes, I'll vote that this is a silly looking cabinet. I didn't like the Asteroids cabinet because they added a spinner to accommodate other games, so 4 joysticks on a single player cabinet design is too much for me.

Karate Champ benefits greatly from using the artwork.

Without the art, you lose the move list.

I wouldn't own this cabinet either way. I'm a big Karate Champ fan, but I ruined the game for myself. On a business trip I played it on my laptop with save states. I passed levels I never could playing the CPU and using save states. I learned the game just gets faster and faster to the point that it seems like luck to keep advancing. Lost my interest and never used save states again.

Exactly. It’s a stupid design choice. Put 4 other single joystick vertical games on it, and you actually have a winner there. But nooooooooo....

Unfortunately, they are slow to find distributors overseas.

They were able to get a couple of cabinets out in the UK,
and are still looking for other European countries.

Keep checking with their facebook page for any updates.

Lots of well-earned complaints about this cabinet. Complaints about the game selection and 8 way joysticks.

That might be, but the game selection and controls were known since they debuted it as karate champ
a year ago.

Also, it didn't stop it from selling out. So, it's just a matter of modding it, if people really want to fix things.

Nothing different, from all their other cabinets (except maybe Star Wars).

I think you're missing the point....

The fact that folks are complaining shows they understand the difference between an 8 way and 4 way and game play. Gripes about screen orientation also shows a desire to be more true to the originals. I think it's a bit of a maturing market and Arcade1up will need to do a better job of grouping games together. Defender slipped by, and a few folks didn't like the controller scheme, but seeing many more folks unhappy with the burgertime controls. I get that these are all data east, but they aren't good candidates for a single cabinet. Hopefully Arcade1up does a better job in the future grouping the games together.

I mean, it's a burgertime cabinet, but the controls aren't setup for burgertime. That's kinda screwy.

Also, it didn't stop it from selling out.

Hasn't sold out --- They still have 400 available on their site and that is after 1500 dropped off the inventory system without being sold ( went from just under 2K units in stock one day to 470 units the next when they had only sold approx 1000 the entire time they had pre-orders open  ( Probably shipped to a wholesaler like HSN similar to what they did with a large portion of the 8K Marvel limited edition cabs  the Marvel Limited Edition cabs that started showing up in Canada for sale through one of their wholesalers. ! )

It's just a shame. The shape and artwork on the cabinet was a home run.

It'll be a good modder cabinet, but it would be nice if the cabinet was good as is.

That's kinda screwy.

looks like they will be addressing the issue:

Someone posted about the 4 way/8 way issue in the official facebook group and John D from Arcade1up responded: "We understand the complaints and are doing something about it. Please stay tuned and thanks for the feedback!"

Well they can't fix it without breaking the other games on the cab.  Karate Champ and Bad Dudes absolutely need 8 way joysticks.

So I would take that as admission that this cabinet controls/game selection/controls/screen orientation is a mistake.

It's a shame too, because the cabinet itself is a nice design. In my mind, this is a bigger mistake than the Asteroids spinner. At least the asteroids cabinet could faithfully play Asteroids. This cabinet makes compromises all the way around. Either the screen is squished, or the controls aren't correct - nothing is faithfully reproduced. This cabinet needs to be modded, just so it can play games well.

the basic problem has been that there is no one at arcade 1up, that actually knows anything about arcade games.
they don't know the titles, and they don't know how to play them.

they don't know what the proper controls are, and they don't know how they are actually supposed to be played.

the thing is, that 99% of people don't care, and aren't actually any good at these games.

so they can keep trying to get away with putting out things, that are collectors items, instead of machines,
that are used for playing.

there is still a vast majority of people that play these games that aren't any good, and wouldn't know a 4 way joystick
vs 8 way, even if you hit them over the head with it.

i can't get to the slow boards on burgertime, but some people can. i'm sure i would complain if i was an expert.
but can you really tell me that people will complain if that isn't in the game either.

they don't care. this is a slight admission because a few youtube influencers can't play the game properly.

i used to report tons of bugs in the atari games early on, and the vast majority of them have never been
fixed. (to be fair, some were originally like that in the arcade versions, but fixed in emulators released on consoles).
