Mint 19. and retropie X86
« on: December 29, 2019, 09:07:38 am »
I am trying Ubuntu 18.04LTS. first time on linux on a PC.
PC is a HP ProDesk Intel i5 -4590, 3.3GHz, 10 gig of ram. my video card is PNY Technologies GeForceGT710 2GB DDR3 PCIE slot.
I have 2 retropi 3b plus and have no problems with them . I have even made my own image a few times. retropi I am comfertable with.
My problems are PC USB WIFI. I can not find one Ubuntu likes. RTL8811AU drivers.
2nd problem is in X86 retropie the sound and video is very choppy.
I have downloaded all N64 emulators and only 2 will load games. I am thinking it is my video card driver. This PC should run all N64 games no problems
HDmi and Sound is working on my 50 inch LG TV

Have you tried upgrading the kernel? That's the first thing I try when I have driver issues.

'yes I did.
I switched to linux Mint.
Mint found drivers. video card is better. WIFI is seen for driver but still no wifi
istalled retropie updating packages now

Mint is a much simpler Linux to start with.. Still installing and updating packages in retropie. the PPSSPP abdate is taking all morning.
I have desktop resized but it seems to revert back to a 76 inch TV after restart. My TV is 50 inch

That's weird. Have you tried putting a sudo in front of the git command? It isn't normally necessary, but your system might be set up in a weird way.

I will try that on the next PC. I have multi PC's all Windows 7. Moving away from Windows.
My bed room has router to internet. only wired connection. Rest of the House is WIFI.
BUT this TV  in bed room only has HDMI no  :censored: PC port. GRRRR.
I did get N64 running. A Face book group member said yank video card. So I did. Stole 1 TV from Kitchen 20 inch with VGA port.
Updated driver and BOOM fixed. Diddy Kong racing and Mario Cart use 2 different EMU's but there smooth and Playing.
I do know almost every thing I do. I have to type password in. this is driving me nuts.
even to go to internet boom password. Change setting in retro pie BOOM  password
I keep thinking shove this  :censored: password up your virtual  :censored:
Thanks for all the help.

new dongle still not working. PC with Linux still not even seeing it. I tossed in Windows 7 Hard drive and loaded driver and it works fine.
At Mint forum I see many people lost WiFi with Mint 19.3
others are saying worked fine with 18.3. downloading 18.3 now.
I will toss that on a small 100 gig HD and see what happens.

I have Retro Pie X86 up and running. with My video card. I need to work on some systems . PSX hung up for some reason. But I wanted to ply some and not work on PC today.
I am liking Mint more and more each day.
next task is to get rid of having to type password for every little thing. most annoying.

Depending on your system, either add your user to the wheel group (and make sure the wheel group has passwordless sudo) or just add the user to sudoers (passwordless, again)
