Hanrarex polo 16:9 to normal 28 inch 4:3 possible? (SOLVED)
« on: December 08, 2019, 12:08:58 pm »
Hi

I have a Hantarex polo 16:9 chassis, for free from a friend.
I do not know the current state of it, but it should be dead.

But before I try to fix it, I would like to know if it is posible to convert it to a normal 28 inch 4:3

If it is what do I need to change?

Kind regards
Per

I've never heard of a 16:9 Polo. If the power and flyback transformers are the same as the usual ones it should be possible to convert it. Check for different values in the horizontal and vertical deflection circuits, especially the high voltage caps and anything else that looks different. Post pics.

Thanks for the pics. Now I remember that around 1992-93 widescreen TVs started to appear and some Italian cabinet manufacturer made 16:9 cabinets thinking the format would have become popular in the gaming industry too but as we know that didn't happen so they quickly disappeared. This monitor still made by the original Hantarex must have been in one of those cabs.

Anyway, the power transformer (Eldor 2082.0743) is the same as the 25-28" but the flyback is different. 25-28" use Eldor 1242.5001 and this is 1242.5004 (= HR7369). The only difference I can see is that .5004 outputs a higher anode voltage because it was required by the bigger 32" (W76...) tubes (see the max. 32KV on the label where the 25-28" have 27KV). So this flyback on a 25-28" monitor will likely trigger the X-ray protection.

The HV caps in the horizontal circuit are the same except for C170 (270nF vs 330nF) which is used for S-correction and that's to be expected since widescreen tubes obviously need more correction than standard ones. Linearity and bridge coil would need to be checked but I don't think they're different. R219 has a higher value (3.3K vs 2.2K). You would need to go through the chassis and compare resistor values with the 25-28" schematics as there could be some differences in the vertical deflection and heater.

All in all it shouldn't be too hard or expensive to convert this chassis to a 25-28".

Hi

Thanks for all the info

I have looked at the neck card, it has a funny crt connector.

Is it "just" possible to swap out the connector with a normal one, I think I have one from an old tv, that I can use

It should be possible. Not sure why it has a double focus socket as the flyback doesn't have two focus wires.

Hi

I have now found a new neck connector and solder it on the pcb :)
I have also checked that the PSU is outputting all the volts 145V,12V,25V,15V and 25V :applaud:
A quick check of diodes, and big resistors - all checks out OK including the HOT...

Now I am waiting for some new 2.2K resistors (R219) then I will change the components that not match a normal 25-28 Hantarex polo.
I might also change the flyvback to a "normal" HR7191

HI

I have now put in a new 2.2K resistor (r219)
Also a new HR7191 flyback

When i power the chassis on, then I get this

(I have before used this CRT to test/repair Hantarex polo monitors on, so I know that my CRT is working.)

Problems with the CRT socket. I'll make a post later. Don't try again.

The socket is installed incorrectly with the pins shifted one position. Blue cathode which is over 100V was sent to the heater. Let's hope the filament is not burned now. You'll have to make a hole for the SG (spark gap) pin as if it were pin 12 on the PCB and remove/cut the NC (not connected) pin. Also, one of the H (heater) pins is broken so it may not make contact with the PCB.

Oh...  :banghead:

BUT... to my luck I did not break the CRT, I have just tested the CRT with another working Hantarex Polo chassis, and there is still a nice picture.

I have found Hantarex Neckboard from a chassis where I had PSU issues, I have now put that on this chassis.
Checked and double checked that I have put all the wires in the right spot, also the pin 1 on the ribbon cable that also this line up with pin 1 on the neck board.

Tried to fire it up, but still the same issue as in my video above... :dizzy: :dizzy:

Can It be that I have missed a cap somewhere...I think that I need to compare caps/resistors again?

The last picture doesn't even look like the same chassis as in the earier pics. You changed a lot of stuff besides the flyback: all the HV caps (when we saw that only C170 was different), HOT, TDA2593. Why? I can only suggest the usual things: check B+, horizontal drive, signs of life from the flyback.

Hi

Yes sorry  :'(
I totally forgot to mention, that when I put in a new flyback my B+ where 164V.
But when I tested the PSU volts with a 40W bulb it where 145V

So with my basic skills I thought that the polyester caps where the cause for the high B+ with fly mounted. So I pulled them out and tested them, but they where fine, but I thought now that thay are old, and I have new ones so let me put new ones in, so I did.

I also tried to swap the TDA2593 out, to see if that fixed my high B+ but it did not.

Finally I figured out that my TH102 where dead, so I swaped it out with a working one, and my B+ where stable with the fly mounted 145V

So it is why you see some changed caps, and a IC socket beneath TDA2593  ;D

Any sign of life from the flyback (high voltage, G2, heater, 200V)? The quick glow seen in the video could mean it's going in x-ray protection. Leave pin 4 of the TDA2593 out of the socket and see if you get a picture.

Hmm... Strange... when I remove solder from pin4, nothing at all happens when I turn it on.
No static at screen...

Put the solder back still the "white" washed out at the middle at the screen..

Can it be the vertical IC104  The picture is not collapsed, so it might not be it...

Not the vertical IC104 tda1675a - changed it to a new one still the same.  :hissy:
Managed to take a quick picture this time, I am shutting it off quick.. (the picture you see below is also shaking)

I have also tested the caps below.. they tested ok, but changed them anyway
C144   1000uf 35V
C142   47uf 25v
C137   220uf 35v

I am thinking  :laugh2:

Is there some resistors that I might have overlooked, that might be diffrent from 16:9 to 4:3
Ex a resistor that specify what type of CRT that is used?

SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!  :applaud: :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:

Now I have solved the issue(s)  :applaud:

1. the shaky/blurry image when i turned on -> solution, just turn the screen volt down on the fly.  :laugh2:  :banghead:
Then adjust the pot so the image fitted the screen.

2. When i got picture, it where to wide in the size, and playing with the pots, could not get it to fit.
C170 - I had put in a 330nf poly cap, swapped it to a 820 nf / 824J poly cap then the picture fitted the 25" inch screen.

3. Curved image, C175 I had put in a 22nf  poly cap, put in a 12nf and no more curved image

  :notworthy: :notworthy:

Good but the picture is more expanded near the sides than in the middle because the value of C170 is too big. You may have to adjust the size coil or the coil may be different on this version.

its possible someone had adjusted the lin coil at some point as that would have the same affect

Hi

Yes It worked, adjusting the coil, and the picture is 100% now  :notworthy:
