Ridge Racer upgrade possible?

I have a Ridge Racer (1) board and I can see there are several labeled roms so I'm wondering if it is possible to swap this roms with RR2 or Rave Racer, would it be compatible?

I don't think there is any danger in just trying is there? I've never replaced roms in a board so I don't know if they can always be backed up and restored in case the new roms don't work.

Thoughts?

Haven't seen anything indicating that it won't work, but I'm not sure if it will work.   

All three use Namco System 22 hardware.

You'll probably need to replace all of the ROMs, unless one or more of the replacements are exactly the same as the originals. (run CRC checks on the related MAME ROMs to be sure)
- Be sure to include the protection chip mentioned on line 1633 of the Namco System 22 MAME driver file here.

The main dangers would be either physically damaging the chips during insertion/removal or ESD damage from handling/storing them improperly.
- ESD wrist strap + mat = good.
- Putting the chips on regular styrofoam = bad. (it can store a huge static charge)
