Wireless analog foot pedal
« on: July 10, 2019, 04:06:54 pm »
I'd love to add a simple wireless analog foot pedal to my cab, for occasional use with driving games.  Seems so simple, but I'm not able to find anything like it.  Anyone ever build one?

Hell,  a plug-n-play USB foot pedal would even work for most...

Correct, that's what I'm looking for.  A wireless USB analog foot pedal.

You sound like you are looking for some kind of usb dongle to wirelessly connect to an analog foot pedal. Pretty sure Mr. Fried was suggesting that even if it was wired, it would be useful meaning there aren't many analog foot usb foot pedals available now, so anything would be better than nothing.

Yes, that's what I'm looking for and haven't found.  So sounds like a no.

Could you start with this?

Just a shot in the dark. I know pretty much zero about this stuff.

If you want to go ghetto you could try this, , use a wireless mouse.  Probably cost you about $1.50 in parts to try,

Alternatively get a wireless xbox 360 steering wheel and a wireless receiver for the pc :)

Wireless is going to be tough.  If you can get away with wired, some of the sim racing sites sell adapters that turn the pedals from wheel sets into stand alone usb devices.  The pedals are just 10k pots though... no additional circuitry... so you could build a set from scratch or better yet buy a "crappy" set on ebay from someone that upgraded their pedals.

*EDIT*

If you don't mind hacking, wireless gamepads typically use pots in the 10k range as well, so you could make/hookup a wireless set anyway.

I'll say this though.  While mame doesn't care if your wheel and pedals are different usb devices, nor do most racing sims, older pc arcade racing games might.  I know outrun 2006 (without my hacks) throws a fit if you have more than one usb controller hooked up.

With two arduinos and a bluetooth module each (and some work obviously) you can realize a wireless controller (analog pedals, switches... whatever you want). Total cost 15 euros.
I am going annoying with this "arduino" thing, am I? :D

The BlueHID Bluetooth interface linked above would do this. Its extensively used in the Sim community:

Hey folks, thanks for all the great replies!  I think I now have some good choices for the electronics/wireless portion.  Now comes the mechanical build--even less my area of expertise.  I'd prefer to build something out of wood, on a block with a good heavy-duty spring and rubber padding.  Assuming I use something like the BlueHID and a POT, does anyone have suggestions on how to put it together?  Particularly: how/where to best mount the pot, what kind of spring, even plans?
