Well you know that drain doesn't lead to Zapcon if jdbailey crawls in.

I'd like to see some pics of the back side of the cab, when you can. I'm kicking myself for over-complicating the doors on my cab, and thinking a single panel should have been the way to go. If it wasn't for all the damned painting and the now crappy weather...I'd probably redo it. Just might, next Summer.

Just like most real arcade machines. 1 piece. It is held in place with a barrel lock at the top. I will snap some pics tonight after work.

That is why I keep preaching to everyone to look at the original machines for inspiration. They were built with utility in mind.

gingecko reference the photos from my Nintendo cab.  The top photo shows how the back door is just one panel with a hole at the top where the lock sets in.  The back door just sits into the back of cab resting on the square dowels on the sides (I ran a router on the inside of my cab so the door would rest in the cab in lieu of square dowels) and the 2 inch pieces of wood that stick out from the top and bottom of main body of the cab.

Thanks guys! Yea, that makes more sense. I think I was worried about needing some support in the middle. I also wanted fans and vents, but those could easily go in the top/bottom strips of something like jdbailey's cab. What keeps the bottom door from popping out? I'm guessing it stays in place from the pressure on the sides, combined with the barrel lock?

gingecko if I remember correctly I over cut my backdoor by 1/32" on one side and sanded it down until it barely fit.  So when I place it in I have to lightly tap it in to make it fit.  That along with the barrel lock gives it a nice fit.

Route a lap joint on the top edge of the bottom panel and the bottom edge of the back door...

...make sure you account for the joint in your overall door dimensions.

The door isn't going anywhere unless someone pushes the cab over.

Wiring is in progress.

Everything is good so far. The multiJAMMA board powers up. Super High Impact powered up and the monitor works just fine.

Anycoin mechs are installed.

I have a bunch more wiring to do. The JAMMA harness I bought was not as advertised. The description said it was wired for -5v and coin switches. There was no -5v lead and only coin 1 had a lead. It wasn't a big deal, but I specifically bought that one so I would have less modding to do. I sent them an email about it and I have yet to get a response back. I am going to call them in the next few days.

Next up is to tidy up the wiring. I am not going to clip the harness short. I am going to bundle and zip tie wires that are too long. There are too many times in the past where I have changed my mind on something and then had to do a bunch of rewiring.

I need to install the PCB rack that will hold 5 or six games depending on how much room I have in the cab.

My buttons and joystick shafts are on the way.

I just bought a Trog PCB and a Simpsons PCB. They will be arriving this week.

This is not a budget build.

Looks really nice.
I love wiring stuff..

Had no idea what an anycoin was...  but that is brilliant..  a dumb piece of plastic..   :applaud:

I'll admit I don't know much of anything about the circuit boards - there is a new one (I'm guessing the multiJamma since it has repeating sections.)
then an obviously old board that is a game..

I'm guessing the Jamma board allows you to plug in a bunch of different 'original' boards so you can have a multi-arcade with original boards?
That's some dedication..

Let me know if I have that right.

You are correct. I can plug in 6 JAMMA boards. This is a newer model. It isn't on the riddledtv.com website yet.

It has inputs and outputs for stereo sound. You plug the stereo wires from your JAMMA boards into headers on the multiJAMMA board.

There is a jumper you enable for each board. Stereo or mono.

The boards that are mono will play through the left speaker. The stereo boards will use both speakers.

This had to be done because stereo sound is not a JAMMA feature.

I will do a little write up on the multiJAMMA board for anyone that is interested.

Oh and I might throw an Arpicade on the 6th JAMMA slot to cover all of the games for which I don't own original PCBs.

What's that little black box with the red circle on it, in the first picture?!

You've piqued my interest in the JAMMA boards. I know next to nothing about them, and am probably better off running a PC, but I'm curious. Especially the multi-game option. That curiosity would probably turn to a lump in my throat once I knew how much the board and original PCBs run. Either way, eager to see what comes next!

That is my multi meter.

Original PCBs are not cheap. Especially the 4 player Konami boards.

There are some FPGA boards out there that kind of bridge the gap between MAME and original hardware.

Nice, you got a Simpsons board!  Must have been a good deal.  I thought you were going to wait?

Original Konami 4P boards have gone bonkers lately. Most games are $300+ these days.

Nah. My buddies kids bring the blocks over. They draw the shape they want on the block and I cut it out on the scroll saw.
Then they sand the cars and paint them.

Yesterday was a beautiful day...

...to work on arcade ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

Sorting out the wiring situation.

It lives!

As it stands right now, if I had my controls mounted I could play games right now.

-I still need to figure out a way to not go through all of the work Opt did to make a monitor shroud.(which looks great BTW)

-I need to fabricate a bunch of cables for the games that support stereo sound and the P3 and P4 controls.
Both of those tasks would be relatively simple except that I am not just using Konami games.

-Once my artwork is done I can apply it and mount the controls.

-I need to make brackets to hold all of the PCBs that will be in the machine.
I mounted each PCB to a piece of 1/4 inch hardboard that has the same dimensions. I have the same setup in my Time Pilot cab and my candy cab. I can slide PCBs out of any of those cabs and interchange them.

My wiring jobs fall somewhat in the middle of the spectrum.

I don't sleeve my wires or measure and mark where my clamps are going to go. I am not that meticulous.

I also don't just chuck the wires in a pile and forget about them. I am not a total slob.

I will sometimes splice wires rather than rerun them.

I use loose clamps so I can pull more wires through in the future.

I will bundle wires rather than cut them shorter and repin them. I never know if I will need that extra wire someday.

I use lots of zip ties to tidy things up.

Screen image looks very clean.  Nothing quite like the curves on a CRT.

I can see the pain on your face on that wiring job.  That’s a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- load of work.

Looks like you will be using a wiring harness from the PCB switcher to the game boards.  You rolling those by hand or buying them somewhere?

There is no way I am going to hand wire JAMMA extenders. :o

I am just going to buy them. A dude on KLOV makes some really sweet ones, but he wants a bazillion dollars for them. I am just going to buy simple extenders from Arcadeshop or Mike's Arcade.

I like making cables and connectors - wiring the CP may have been the funnest part of my build.  But I get why people don't.  I was helping a friend via txt yesterday trying to explain how to use a standard male/female spade connector.  He had never seen one.

Oh and by the way, my kid just took 3rd place on Tempest.  You’ve been officially wiped from the scoreboard......I foresee a flight to the West Coast in short order, lest you are comfortable being bested by an 8 year old.
