Well at lest you got a successful kid whose going to college, I only hope I can say the same some day.  My youngest is either going to be the CEO of a large company or doing 5-10 in Quentin.  :o

Lots of people do both.

I am also driving with my son to move him in to college this afternoon.

We have been packing and spending some time hanging out. He will be far enough away that I won't see him probably until Thanksgiving.

It is hitting me harder than I thought it would. We are really close, especially close after my wife died. We like a lot of the same books, music, and movies.

He plays drums, bass, piano, and synthesizer. It is going to be very odd not hearing electronic music one minute and classical piano the next, coming out of his room.

I am happy and proud that he is moving forward with his life, it is just sad for me right now. He is a smart kid and a good student. He could end up getting a job halfway across the country. I just have to adjust to my new reality.

My parents threw out all my ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- within 24 hours of me going to college.  Apparently that's one way to cope with it?

I have a friend like that except it was the day he turned 18. They gave him a week to figure out where to live and move out his stuff.

My mum give me a ultimatum once I finished school.
Its was:
A) Go to college and stay here with me.
B) Go to get a job and find ya own place to live.

Being a Smart ass and wanting my own space I went with B of course.
I never regretted that decision but I do feel somewhat cheated as I got a apprenticeship and still spent the most part of 10 years in college lol

Either way absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that jazz Mike.

I am sure he will be missing you just as much and now when you do get to see each other it will be even more meaningfull.

Ime still close to my mum but probably only see her 3 or 4 times a year but chat on the phone once a week.

Thanks guys. I will be fine. It will just take a little time to adjust.

I am more focused on hoping he makes the adjustment quickly and jumps into college life.

Whatever gets him through to graduation. He doesn't seem to be wired that way, but then again, I didn't enjoy my first alcoholic beverage until I was 20.

I also stopped drinking completely for 15 years when I had kids.

Well... I have the cab assembled. I have one side primed. I am trying to work in painting and priming with all of my other projects. I would post pics, but nobody will learn anything about painting from me. When it is painted I will post some pics. My next cab will be laminated or vinyl wrapped or stained. F**k painting.

This week I am busy with party prep. I have a lot of small arcade issues to work on.

There is also the minor matter of prepping to rewire about 80 percent of my house. I have been putting it off for a long time, but I have an electrician that is available to help me on a quid pro quo basis that doesn't involve butt stuff. I can do the job, but he has tools and experience that will make the job much less painful.

He will be helping me the week after my party.

Right after that will be prep for my Halloween party. Throwing a party every month is a lot of work, but it encourages me to keep my house clean.
I am not a dirty person, but I am messy by nature. I am bad at putting things away. My wife was a counter balance to that messiness.

My CNC machine is back in working order and my new laser tube is working great. If any of you locals ever bother to show up at one of my parties we could discuss ways I could help you out with projects.

Don't sell yourself short man, Lots of things to learn from watching your paint dry...most cabs had some orange peel to them, and that can be achieved with a foam roller and some appropriate thinner in your paint, so, primer to fix imperfections, sealer to cover any sand through, (400grit works well with most enamels/latex), topcoat (3 coats)...And possibly a welder in case you need to fix something (Giggle).

Mike - can't imagine what it feels like taking your kid to college.  My oldest started high school last week and it's already starting to hit me that we might have less than 4 years left in our little bubble.  Damn.

Yeah. He is doing great with the transition. He is kicking ass in his classes and he made new friends right away. I am very proud of him.

He decided to make the trip home for my birthday. This weekend is going to be one for the history books.

I would like to know what kind of ID plate or sticker they put on them.

Just to make you happy I will take a couple of pics and post them tonight.

The sides are painted. They are flat and ready for artwork. They are not pretty, but they don't need to be.

The front panel is painted. The speaker panel, top panel and back are all primed.

Did I mention I hate painting?

...And it is 100 percent avoidable for the kind of cabs I want to build.

Vertical laminate is far easier, and it is more cost effective.

You guys that have the patience to paint and sand and paint and sand, and paint and sand again have my respect.

Vertical laminate FTW.  I'm only paintin if someone comes to my home and pays me to take lessons.

EDIT:  BTW I saw the cab IRL, and it is professional work.  All the cuts are clean, and the speaker holes came out awesome. Looking forward to when Mikey gets off his but and finishes the paint work  ;D.  Oh and I am stupid envious of that barn.

I'm in the camp of enjoying the paint process.

Good to hear the cab is ready for artwork.
Once things have settled done with our move, I'll get firing on your art and hopefully can turn something around before you finish the cabinet completely.
