18.5.1 slower to change refresh?
« on: July 07, 2019, 10:50:05 am »
I just updated my emudriver from 16.2.1 to 18.5.1 (beta15), and now everytime the card has to change refresh it goes a lot slower to change than in 16.2.1.
What I mean is for example starting up arcade_osd or vmmaker takes about 5 times longer than on the older version.
Also starting a game on groovymame takes longer before they start.

If I switch back to the 16.2.1 , all is back snappy again.Tried on 2 computers with different AMD cards (7970 and 7750).

I see a lot (15 disabled and 1 enabled)  more "displays" with no monitor attached and disabled in vmmaker on 18.5.1 than in the older driver. Can I somehow remove the unused disabled adapters?

Is this normal behaviour if so, then no problem...maybe someone has an explanation.

thanks

I had some issues too and decided to get rid of anything graphicscard related via display driver uninstaller. Works better now but is still a bit slower...but could also be because of the new Vulcan driver which still fails to SwitchRes my PS1 Logo.

Still.. i have to stick with it because in game movies are finally scaled properly with Vulcan...

There was a Windows 10 update maybe 12-18months back that made switching resolutions 10x slower. Calamity acknowledged this at some point, but it's not something he can get around IIRC. Not sure if Win 7 was affected as well. It might be related to that, i guess?

I have two Win10 cabs, the first of which is connected to the net and to windows updates, which takes like 4-5 seconds to bring up a new resolution sometimes. The second cab, not on the net and so not updated and running an 18-month-old build of Win10, switches instantly. Same version of crt_emudriver on both - beta 10 of 16.2.1, i think?

Hah, that could be an explanation (thanks for the tip). I read that teknoparrot also had problems after 1803 windows10.
Tried an earlier build of win10, but same slow refresh time on 18.5.1 (even opening vmmaker).
